Dear fellow Mutants, I am declaring that I am a RVM. I drive a 1975 Barth motorhome that has nothing and needs nothing (except fuel) and I am proud of her and her brother a 1985 Barth motorhome, and baby sister a 1968 Barth trailer.

I may not have what I want, but I have what I need, does this qualify me to join?

You can play mine if you want. I have wide necks and narrow ones. Heck... tune to taro patch or any of the open tunings and you can do some amazing things with one or two fingers. There are folks out there that cut capos ... and put 3 or 4 on the guitar. lol

Don't have a dishwasher and don't miss it. Don't have an electric entry step well cover - good old manual fold down. Half the time Annie leaves it up and hasn't fallen in the well yet.

Gee, that says a lot, RVM2. I dont even HAVE a step well cover. It's mid entry, haha!! The rig has curved sides, so the door looks kinda like one on a 747, sans big latching lever and evacuation slide.

Since purchase, I have added shelves in the kitchen, a PI EMS, a Valterra water pressure regulator, and snap-on exterior UV shades. That's it. But they are non-RVM as they were wanted and needed.

RVM2 Here. Good Morning to all RVMs and future RVMs!!

Annie and I purchased our '08 Bounder last August and are working toward going full time the middle of next year. We are planning our escape to be able to escape planning. Like all plans and in keeping with the RVM lifestyle - we will adapt the plan if necessary in order to live the dream our way. For now we are on track.

We knew going into it that we had things we didn't need, that there were things we didn't have and wouldn't miss and some things we would need to add.

I've mentioned some of things we don't have and don't miss as part of being an RVM. So here are some of things we have added that are intended to get us to the steady state of RVM contentment.

Valterra H2O Pressure regulator,
Amish cooling unit and halon fire extinguisher to the Norcold 1210IM, PI PC50 Surge Protector,
Power Master VC50 Voltage Controller, Complete power cutoff via battery disconnect switches, MiniMax HD satellite, 2 211K satellite receivers, bug screens to both heater exhausts, 2 Fantastic Vent covers with bug screens, 120V outlet in electric bay for fan to keep it all cool, a 120v outlet to bay for air compressor for tires, MCD coach shades were added during their sale last year and cockpit shades are on the list before we head out on the road. I've also been building my tool box.

We have some other things left to do and they are important. Right now we are toadless and and we want to change out our flooring and I'm thinking of swapping the loveseat for a Euro chair. We will also get new tires before we head out.

While it might seem anti-RVM to be adding all of these things, we did buy used and have had the coach less than a year. We knew going in that most of these things were a part of our RVM utility function. Once we retire we want to be in maintenance mode - not acquisition mode - and concentrate on protecting the nest egg. Also - important to us is to head out completely debt free. Bonita Bounder is our only debt and we're knocking that out as quickly as possible. Love making those payments to principle and watching the balance come down.

So for us - being an RVM isn't about doing without - it's about having things the way you want them and not wanting / missing things you don't need or don't have - and having the wisdom to know the difference.

Last post for this morning as this morning is designated - tool organization time. I am grouping things in small tubs and boxes by category and bay to keep us organized.

So earlier in the thread I provided some quotes from Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance that I thought were in the RVM spirit. Here's another to ponder.

He did. He was in Iraq 5-1/2 years. Well, first six months was in Kuwait.

I cheated Wayne. I knew that and have commented elsewhere on his service and your right to be so proud of him. Except that lawyer thing (if I remember correctly) but every family should have one. .

I think I still have a 4 of 5 page booklet of all open tunings around here someplace. Time to hit the garage. Thanks to you and your son once again for your service.

Ah! I need to straighten out the think pot. Number 2 son was in Iraq for 5-1/2 years as a civilian. He was the project manager for distribution of supplies to the military in the Norhthern region. He was headquartered in Zaho, Iraq for the majority of that time. For the 6 months in Kuwait he also made convoy runs to Baddad before becoming project manager. Funny thing is he wore slacks and a white shirt with a Walther strapped to his side. All the guards thought he was "one of those agency guys," hee hee! I believe his time was 2005-2010+ time frame.

Number 2 son spent his year at I-MEF as the SJA, and just returned this past Feb. He's the one you have to watch out for, he is a Full Bird and he has the "lawyer" look. (we are just hoping that when he get's out there will be a place for us above his garage. - Hey, it's free babysitting for him!!)
