We are in Oregon! And it's green up here. I almost forgot what grass and trees look like. We've been in the desert too long!

For those of you traveling to the RVMoon GC in August -- there are 2 routes you can take across Oregon after you cross the Snake River west of Boise -- US 20 and US 26. Highway 20 takes you across high desert -- mile after mile of mind numbing, boring scenery. Highway 26 is further north and takes you on a scenic tour of rural America -- past farms, thru small towns, over mountains, thru National Forests and winding along creeks.

Surprisingly the distance from the eastern border to Idanha is less than a 10 mile difference, but the US 26 route is slower.

Tonight we are parked in John Day and tomorrow we will visit the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument 36 miles west of here.

https://www.nps.gov/joda/index.htm

Then we'll head to Idanha to interface with Jim and Laurie about what to expect from this motley crew. After that we stock up on taxable items at a Portland Costco (no sales tax in Oregon, 10% in Seattle) and bee line it to my DD's new home in Lake Forest Park, WA. I've only seen photos so I'm really excited to get there.

And I no longer care if it's still raining up there. We are one very road weary trio!

At 9:13 pm tonight I heard a siren going off for about 2 minutes. Had I been in Oklahoma I would have gone to my tornado shelter. I'm not quite sure what it means in rural Oregon. Call out for volunteer fire dept? Time for all parents to find their kids? Every Wednesday night alarm test?

I don't see people scurrying about so I'm guessing it's not something to be concerned about -- at least I hope not.

Did Fred and Barney run to their foot cars and head home to Willma and Betty?

Hard to shake the tornado alley siren call to duck and run to the shelter/basement.
We had a strong wind/rain storm this AM.. I was out driving in my Jeep to get to some dogs that needed to go potty...came across a tree which had just fallen across the road. Had to go around it further than the shoulder and on an embankment... exciting times in the Jeep! Yay for jeeps... everyone else had to turn around and find another way in the driving horizontal rain...Actually, I'f I'd wanted to slow down and put it into 4WD... i could have gone over it... but I was in a hurry... It all lasted about 20 minutes which is about how long it took me to get to the dogs... and then the sun came out.

As are as it is, we had a small "funnel cloud" near Santa Fe, NM yesterday. Only warning around here are the weather channels and watching the sky.

Most of the places I've lived have been in tornado alley, so that's my first thought when I hear a siren. I'm just glad it wasn't some emergency I wouldn't have known about.

Weather patterns are changing, but tornados in Santa Fe???

Et tu, Marty? Geez, you Jeepers are all alike.

Steve, I think Fred et al are still in AZ. I haven't seen any stone quarries in weeks.

For those of us that will be time limited getting there - how does that route compare to just following I-84 for time? I looked at the map and both those routes seem like the slow road to Idanha.

Something tells me that tree was prime for falling for some time!

Can't say much, I have at least 3 dead tress still standing now. But non that will fall across my driveway.

What, no four wheel drive on that nice MH? Lead with the Jeep so you can tow the MH.

As a follow up, Sue and I have been chopping off as much as we can for firewood before Leroy comes along with his backhoe and takes it away to the fireplace up the lane. The other thing from the storm, I had left out a 4'x4' piece of OSB I'd used for a concrete mixing board and that's completely disappeared. Its probably in someone's field somewhere

Go rent a chain saw... make quick work of getting the limbs for firewood.
Oh wait... you can't get out... what about your jeep... you can take it to a rental store to get a chainsaw...Then hook a chain or 2 on the rest and with said handy jeep, drag it outta your path...
