MYTH

This is probably the worst tornado myth. Taking shelter under an overpass is one of the most dangerous things you can do when a tornado is approaching. The reason has to do with the way the tornado's winds could potentially interact with the bridge structure. At the very least, taking shelter under an overpass puts you at a higher elevation with no protection from debris and winds. The Norman, Oklahoma Weather Service office compiled a presentation on the topic after the May 3, 1999 tornado outbreak, which can be viewed here. More on tornado safety here.

Taken from: Tornado Fact Vs. Myth

Not trying to get anyone's underwear in a knot - just want facts out there. Many old wives tales are true. but many are just myths.
Well you go argue with a state troop dude. He said and we did.

Maybe Michigan tornadoes have better manners than OK/TX tornadoes. How would I know anyway I haven't been harassed by a Tornado for at least one marriage ago.

They used to teach hide in underpass in Oklahoma until some folks got sucked out and killed. Somebody at the University of Oklahoma did some research on it and then the lessons changed.

Tornados are just plain nasty. I lived TX, KS and OK most of my life so I learned to respect them.

Barb, Any idea of how long ago this change was made. My first wife and I chose to divorce over 30 years ago and I was with her returning from a fall convention in Erin Mills Ontario, taking a shortcut home through Michigan.

Absolutely a wonderful night!

Mutants @ Tim & Mary's with a gathering for Charlene's FB broadcast was another first, the FEVC or GC... We had fantastic food, fellowship & entertainment...

I thank Charlene for the menu/demo & commentary!

I thank all those that prepared each dish!

I thank Tim and Mary for their hospitality!

I thank Martin & Sue for stopping by on their journey west!

I thank Di & Larry for bringing that delicious desert that I cant pronounce or spell, but I didn't have any problem eating it... Even without a hint of alcohol - it was delicious.

Now, I am looking forward to meeting for lunch tomorrow...

Life is Good!

It was so much more fun with a group, including not only our very own RetroGrandma Charlene, but also all y'all other RVMs chiming in. We surely changed the tone of the presentation w/ our smart @ss comments, being the mutants that we are, but there were gpod questions too.

Who knows? There may even be a fritter recipe for Dave in the works.

Now I have to go write down that bun recipe. 'Night, Charlene, and all y'all, too!

Well that's 14 right there, I believe we had a First Ever Video Grand Curosity!

My bet is we had the most fun of all those mutants watching. My apology to Charlene if some of the mutants might have acted up. But I did warn you!

I believe it was after some people were sucked out of an underpass during the May 3,1999 EF5 tornado

Sorry Tim, for the purpose of determining the level of Curiosity we only count rigs, not individuals. This was a great Curiosity, gC, not Grande Curiosity, GC.

What do we need, 10 rigs?

Deb, Colleen, Dave, Earlene, Sara and Barry represent 6 different rigs plus the 4 rigs represented by the eight mutants at my house add up to 10 plus Charlene's rig makes 11!

Okay, there we go, debate settled. May we now declare this the FEVgC? I so move. Thanks, Barb!

More fun than a barrel of .....!

Edit: I see Tim has another idea. True, we represented all those rigs, but since we were on a video gathering, most rigs were not involved. gC sounds fine to me. It's a distinctive monicker, and quite mutant, in my mind.

Or perhaps simply a VC. I'm not sure if there have been any RVM Conference Calls... But they would be CCs... ?

Sorry to have missed it, whatever it's moniker... but we've been stayin busy. We pulled into Yuma on Jan 1st. On the 5th I had 4 teeth pulled and bridge removed. Went back today and had remaining 6 uppers pulled. I now have no upper teeth, bone grafts and set up for 9 implants. Go back Wednesday for the next step. Gonna take a while but had to be done. I'll be enjoying baby food for some time. Hard to grasp not being able to eat Pho. Can't even gum my way through noodles. Oh the humanity. And to make matters worse- got there at 9 - left about 3:30 But then stood in line 1.5 hours to get out. The line actually crossed the river...
