Hey guys! Loved meeting you all last night! We will definitely do something again where we can all interact more than we did last night, if you're all up for it!
Okay, Allen and I have a question. We took Clora Mae to a repair shop to have them look at the generator. They told us they could fix it, but it would be a rebuild and it would be $2,000. Before we go ahead and spend that two grand, are there any other options that are less expensive? We are open to thinking out of the box so throw ideas our way.
Allen says, just to tell you including a portable generator as an idea.
Thanks, mutants!
Charlene

Hey Ed... what's you're thought. I'm thinking a new 5.5 Onan is about 4k new.

Most important question.... How are you going to use the motorhome?
Campground to campground you won't need it unless you had to have the roof air running.
My suggestion get a few trips in it before investing that much into generator repairs. Make sure there are not more pressing repairs needed.

Yep mostly it'll be CG to CG. But Allen uses a cpap and if we needed to boondock, we'd need a way to power that up. Roof air, yeah, that's possible as an issue.
Would a small ish portable generator run those? Or would we do better looking at getting it repaired?
We've got other repairs on the list, yep.
Thanks,
Charlene

I'm thinking $2k in a 1989 gen is risky. Find out by using the MH some just how much it's needed. Unless we stop at a WM we seldom start ours. I haven't tried it but I think my inverter would power my cpap overnight.

If your batteries are fully charged you can run the CPAP all night and boondocks , but you'll want to recharge the batteries in the morning , so you would run the Genny or the engine.
