I'm with you honey chil' - rutabaga sounds like something healthy rather than tasty.

Rutabaga would be a good name for a dance perhaps?

Ah, the humble Rutabaga...Kept many a poor soul alive during the world wars! Unfortunately, some folks have genes which makes the poor rutabaga taste too bitter to consume. A little in a stew or soup isn't too bad, but mom used to do mashed turnips and potatoes together... we didn't care for that. Apparently was a new England thing.

One more 1962 Buick story for Electra 225. Once when we had Grandma's old Buick at the grocery store, a hailstorm came up, big enough hail people were running yelling "OW OW OW!!". We walked out to the lot afterwards looking at all the multiple pockmarks in all the cars (bad memories for some Mutants, sorry) then got to the Buick. It looked at us undamaged like "What hailstorm?"
Side story. There were a lot of 'hail damage' sales at the local car dealers after that...

Yup Dave, they used a heck of a lot heavier guage metal back then. You'd have to hit it with a ballpeen hammer to actually dent it.

On today's cars you could accomplish the same with your knuckles rapping on the hood like you're knocking on someone's door.

I will be on a quest to find the "Rutabaga Pie" like my grand mother used to make for us...

It didn't have a lot of other ingredients & I have tried several, maybe this one sounds like one I will try... From the "Old Farmer's Almanac"..

Ingredients
2 large eggs
1 cup medium or whipping cream
2 tablespoons honey
2 cups cooked, mashed rutabaga (about 1 pound)
1/2 cup light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon salt
9-inch partially baked pie shell

Maybe while at the FEUMGC I will find the perfect taste I am looking for..

We were the poor souls that survived with things like this & Liked it..

Now, all the Rutabaga pies seem to have Strawberries in the recipe.. Not for me.

Great memories!!
