Wow! Don and Sandee here tomorrow, Sue and Martin in a few days, and Jeff and Marcia have started this way (wherever they may be.)

Looks like I'll have to put on the Clam Chowda! I really hope there is some overlap between all of them being here. Jeanie and Dave will show up and maybe even Bob and Lisa. It's going to be a great time.

You didn't say you were making clam chowda. Wish we were there too but someone has to count sand on the beach.

One ole coot saw several other coots at Balmorhea SP, TX, today. Can you find them? (Hint: left of the island.) PoP:

Plus a pair of scaled quail and a belted kingfisher. They may be common here, but they are all uncommon to me, so I was happy.

Tiny flowers are blooming, some already seeding.

Several plants here are dye plants used for wool & cotton, & I was tickled to find them. Can't harvest at SPs, though. 🙄

Onward now to The Caverns at Sonora. Deer feeding time is 5:00, always entertaining.

Cheers, y'all!

Those brown seed heads look sort of like sunflower heads after the seeds have matured... I always enjoy looking at those types of 'scapes in the winter... you can really see the structures then with out all the foliage. Wonder if Teasel is still a big item... saw some driving down a country road the other day right in the ditch waiting to get mowed down.

Iím happy here with much of the same birds, plus some Osprey. I couldnít see the quail and kingfisher in your pic. But I know they are there!
Dye plants. Never knew! The pods look to be from over winter, have not fallen.

Mary said she spent another day with the same old coot. Guess I missed it while I was driving.

The ranger who could have ID'd the plants for me was not at work today. My luck! 'Sokay; Google is my friend!

The kingfisher may be the black blob on the power line (or is my screen dirty!) or else he was replaced by a big white wing dove. I only got one shot at the kingfisher's big swooping dive across the pond, & spent all of it standing there openmouthed.

The pair of scaled quail, which I'd never seen before, ran up to the coach and across onto the grass right under our noses. I was so excited I was jabbering like a kid on sugar. If you aren't a birder, you won't understand. 🤗 (Google has some good images & short videos of the quail.)

Lucky you, to have osprey around. We used to see them while paddling in the estuaries & rivers out of Naples (FL). They make such amazing nests.

'Nuff outa me, maybe, for one night. Sleep well!

Caverns of Sonora, repeat visit.

I took another dusk walk tonight, & once again snagged the evening star caught up in something aerial, this time a cluster of purple martin "gourds".

Why there is a big teepee on the grounds, I don't know & keep forgetting to ask.

Several times I spooked up small bands of deer, who would "whoof! whoof" & then take off in the dark. Spooked me the first time, too.

On my return loop, the doe in the light stood watching me approach as long as she could stand it. No whoofing alarm from her, though. She just turned & calmly walked away.
