Cool

What are the odds? I got outside early ‘tis morning, deciding to make progress on the hoop shed while it was cool and the winds were calm.

Beverly stopped by and helped me put the 19'x29’ tarp over the top and secure it with large stones all around the perimeter and a ratchet strap across the top. I knew it wasn’t yet secure but most of my outdoor equipment is still in a friend's storage garage in Blythe, CA. They will be here this weekend. It should be ok, right?

We were sitting in the shade admiring our handy work and chatting about what to tackle next. All of the sudden a fierce wind started up. We looked over at the shed in time to see it rise about 4’ above the hoops. Had it not been for the ratcket strap it would have flown away.

As quickly as it started, the wind stopped blowing and was a gentle breeze again. It was then that I realized a strong gustnado had tried to steal my tarp. Deciding it would be futile to repeat the tarp mounting without the proper equipment, we folded the tarp in half on the ground and weighed it down with rocks.

Another lesson learned the hard way.

Shall we think about crashing the party? (By car only, no RV.) Or keep the mutanticity away from your friends, so you aren't found out?

We haven't seen that park. Have you, & is it nice?

Lordy, Barb, you do have some adventures! At least the tarp is safe. It's nice to have help, too, isn't it? (Hi, Auntie Blup!)

A few days ago, I posted a pic of part of a ruined wall at Berwick Upon Tweed. Here is the southbound version of the same section, taken a few minutes ago:

My in laws think it may not be Roman, but more likely a defense between England & Scotland, as it is on the River Tweed at the border.

The train crossed the river on the Royal Border Bridge. There is a castle there at Berwick, but I haven't looked it up yet. Feel free!

I've seen several caravan parks & holiday camps right on cliffs' edge & tried to snap them for y'all. Major fail. Personally, I'd love to stay in one. Most of the units look to be park models for rent.

Imagine: sea view, sea breeze/wind, shipping & tides right there to watch beyond the cliff. And no negotiating narrow lanes or tight turns. Or jumping trees, either.

Apologies for the vertical bridges! Also for accidental double post.

BTW, who's awake to award the golden unicorn?

DBIL told me I could look from the train for a hill figure white horse north of York. Cut through turf into underlying white limestone, these figures are quite striking. Here's a link to an article about this particular horse, the Kilburn horse.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilburn_White_Horse

We've seen 3 others, including an ancient one, plus the Cerne Giant, who was anciently carved into a hillside near the village of Cerne Abbas. Each of them has to be maintained to keep it white & clear of weeds.

It ain't over till the fat lady sings, they say ... & I'm not ready to warble just yet! We'll be at Paddington Station around 5 pm, then a hotel for a lovely meal & an overnight.

Cheers!
