On April 3rd we knew that Sandee's dad was in his final stages so we covered nearly 800 miles in 19 hours and arrived on a side street next to his home at 1 A.M. on the 4th. It was a tough slog but it was worth it. He was still cognizant for most of the 4th and Sandee along with her 2 brothers got to spend lots of time with him. Rufus passed away in the early afternoon of the 5th. He was a good man, had a good life but was ready to be with his bride whom he missed for over 4.5 years.

Of course, there were all the phone calls and communications with other family members about funeral plans and such. Sandee is also the executor but Rufus hand all the important things taken care of but there will be a little bit of probate work to be done but nothing crazy.

We have leaned the value of the RV life style! You can't imagine how much "stuff" can be stuffed into a 1100 sq ft home, attic and a 3 car shop/garage with its own attic. LOL That won't happen when we have set sail on our last road trip. We filled 2 HUGE roll off garbage haulers with all manner of things that didn't fare will in storage or were just put away for "what/when ever" they might be needed. This is not uncommon for those that were raised during the great depression and you can't fault them. let's just say the we may have a multi weekend estate-garage sale.

The weather here in central IL (near Sue & Martin's homestead) has been atrocious for much of the time. However, being with family has been warming to Sandee's heart.

This year will probably find us close to Champaign, IL for most of the summer and early fall. We had other plans but life events change things when you least want or expect them. However, the does give me the opportunity to accomplish a few big projects. I'm doing major upgrades to the water system including a hole house reverse osmosis system, new SeeLevel tank readouts, and other projects.

Sandee will also be busy with her functions as executor. She will be managing the garage sales and final disposal of items not sold or taken by family members. She will also be managing the prep and sale of the home. Her youngest brother is hugely involved in the process and providing here the family support she needs during the entire process.

So...we are doing well. We adapt and overcome these bumps in the road with love of our RV lifestyle.
Thoughts and prayers for you, Sanders and family.

I was in charge of unpacking and sorting the kitchen when my Dad and Stepmom moved into assisted living. I found over 100 plastic margarine tubs, a quart jar full of twist ties and another with rubber bands, saved fast food napkins and a stack of slightly cracked plates.

My younger brother was tasked with Dad's hunting and fishing gear and their furniture. He wimped out and just put everything in storage. That was 12 years ago! It's still there. So much stuff! I suspect it may stay there until my nephews clean it out in 20-30 years.

Itís kind been a nostalgic day for me. I filled the RV at a Gulf station in Houston, TX. Dad worked 37 years for Gulf and retired shortly before they became one of the first leveraged buyouts in the 1980s. Chevron took over and rebranded everything, but recently the Gulf orange disk can be seen again - at least in Texas.

WE are in for the night at Oak Glen RV Park a little east of Chandler OK on old Route 66. It's a small quiet park at a decent price and nearby Chandler is an historic Route 66 town.
Still adding up the pros and cons of the park we stayed in south of Ardmore OK as a possible GC site. Not as nice as Miller Creek but better than the fairgrounds in Tucson.
Barb, where I grew up in Crawfordsville IN there was a Gulf station just around the corner. Aired up my bike tires on several occasions and had them once fabricate a shift linkage for me when I changed it from column to floor mounted.
Sue, is that the rest stop just outside of Springfield? I think we have stopped there at least once before. The highway centerline on the sidewalk is the finishing touch... (yes, spell check, centerline IS ONE WORD)...
On to Coachlight RV Park at Carthage MO tomorrow, another possible place for a GC and close to a massive RV scrapyard. (Wonder what they'd charge for a group to hold a scavenger hunt there? - probably think we were a bunch of crazies...wait a minute...)

Yes, the same rest area. Cool beans!

We were at Coachlight last night, below the wild America RV Sales, who own the park. Tell Mike at the desk hi, & his henchman Jerry, too.

Tonight we're at West St. Louis Historic Rt. 66 KOA. Click image for larger version

Nice quiet walk along the creek w/ its riffles and rapids ... except for the interstate & a rail track across the water. And then there were these guys, but they went quickly w/ a wave.

That's two of the nicest things you've ever called me, Thanks!

Celebrated by mowing yard most of the day. While taking a much needed break which turned into a nap, 3 yo GD came running in taking a flying leap atop of me, shouting happy birthday Grampa! What a way to wake up, thanks for all the best wishes.

For those on FB I posted the news reports of the tornado that occurred during our First Ever GC@CL.

Happy Birthday Tim!

We rolled up to the house today at around 4:30 pm. A little drizzle going on but now it's cleared up. Unpack tomorrow and then the grind starts on Tuesday...

Thanks to Wayne and Earlene for a great GC! Loved the area and the timing was perfect for all those glorious wildflowers. I'll post more pics after I get back into the groove of things around here...

I wish you many more!

Cheers!

Thanks Carl and Sue. No cake and ice cream, I stood on the scales this morning, not good!

But I did get my favorite homemade Apple Pie! Lots of phone calls and singing from the grands, even the twins got in on the singing and of course the one next door came a visiting on her own. ( Mary was pre warned she was on her way. )

Dave you better rest up, Hayden awaits!

Timster, I hope your birthday was great.
It was fun to spend time with you you this past week.
Many happy returns.

When we left Johnston city you blew past me like you were trying to outrun the revenuers. I was at the fueling place right at the stop right beside the Al Agave place we ate supper at, on the eve of our leaving. Sure enjoyed our time together.
