I saw one gator right after we moved here, none since... there us a bird sanctuary very close, i was told they like to stay in that area.
In the map below.... the gulf is at the top, those lakes at the bottom are marshland and are all the bird sanctuary.... there are marshlands to both the right and left. We have bear, deer, and this is a really big kayak area on the springs....

We saw some dandy gators in Lakeland FL. But not over 7 feet (YIKES). And nearly 15 feet from the RV.

Gators are just one of the reasons we no longer winter in Florida. I didn’t know about bears being there as well. I'll add them to my list.

Where we stayed in FL 3 years ago, a gator wandered into the park. Didn't see it but apparently they called animal control to come get it. We did see several armadillos though. I had always associated them with the southwest more but I haven't seen any out here yet. I guess we're in enough 'civilization' to not get any real wildlife. Hardly any birds or insects either...

So last night I found a new career. Homemade chocolate chip cookie cooking assistant. While Mary was visiting with a lady from church I was in charge of getting them out of oven.
Pay was I could eat any broken ones. Note; if they don’t cool enough before scooping off pan a lot will break.
I probably gain 10 pounds.

Fantastic progress on Connie & hoophouse both! I am so impressed w/ what you've accomplished. Too bad about the wind ramping up just when Bob could have used just one more day to get that window in.
I kayaked w/ a group in S. FL for several winters w/o alligator incident. We saw them sunning, but they are neither hungry nor defending territory or mates then. Spring? Different story!
We were told to watch out for the local female bobcat & her young'un, though. She might yank a small dog right off your leash. Yikes! Add that to your list!
Cheers!

I was at Kennedy Space Center for a week back in the days. At noon one of the local NASA employees said, come take a look. We walked out the door and about 40 yards away was a very small stream of water. When we got to the edge the alligators were piled on top of one another and started thrashing about. I swear there were a few hundred of them lining that little stream. Wish I had had a camera.

So, you think you have problems!
This stack of cookies was twice as high. I had to stop walking by.
Notice the second from the right, top of pile, front row had a piece missing.
That was before the first smack.
I was able to sneak one before Earlene slapped my hand. I should have taken it from the back row and maybe she would not have noticed.
Cookies are Macadamia Nut cookies.

Had a fairly quick trip home.....left Wednesday at 7 am, and got home 9:30 am Thursday morn.......1300 miles with 3 1 hour naps.....best thing was only took 3 full tanks, 35 gal tank, to get here.....$190......and was traveling 70 to 75......so these old Rams can get decent mileage......ran into snow from Susanville, Calif to McCloud, Calif, then heavy fog, then rain all the rest of the way.....went shopping today to get a few more cutoff wheels for cutting out window holes and whatever else .......last window just needs a couple pieces of Lexan to complete....gonna be a garden window type....and when I checked airfares last Sept, the redeye was a little over $500 from Yuma....

Mary said those were typical male errors. That's why we can't get away with anything!
