M.J., I have an LTC (License to Carry). I'm retired military and stay at many of the military campgrounds. They do not allow firearms on the facility. Therefore, when we travel on the road for 4 to 5 months during the summer I leave the firearms at home.
In all the years we have been traveling I have never felt the need to have one. Just saying, and it keeps life simple.
I know it is just like insurance. You don't need it until you need it. But....
Stay safe and looking forward to meeting y'all in Shipshewana. You can PM me and I'll send you a list of RVM's to avoid, like Dennis, Tim, Jeff, all the Dave's, and the ones to butter up to, like Irene, Mary, Marcia and all the Dave's spouses. They are good cooks.

We would def like to go to shipsawana. Any info would be great..
Thank you for the gun comments. It has helped with our decision.

Carol knows how to cook but I actually do most of the cooking for us...
Maybe Grand Poobah Dave should contact the campground to see if they can move him closer to us (or farther away if that would be better). Darn, if we had known that many of us were going to be there we could have probably negotiated a rally rate...

Oh, since this is an unplanned get together - and it looks like enough of us may show up to qualify as a GC - will that make it the First Ever RV Mutant Un-GC?

Dave you might call the office back and set up a rally rate. They offer it and doesn’t look like our leaders care. I would but we’re still unsure on our attendance. Remodel on S&B dates pending.

Wow Tim, you must have done it before! Very good
Overall summary is Tail of the Dragon and TN-32 are two of the most challenging and intense roads I've ridden. I also had a great ride on 209, which either starts in TN or is in NC. I calculated I drove around 125 miles total on curves (TOD is 11 miles, TN-32 is 7 miles, 209 was 24 miles 290 curves). I drove each of them multiple times. Made the mistake of doing TOD on Saturday (weather was great), it was a mad house. Went back on Monday and the road was mine Put 500 miles on the bike easily during my vacation.
I actually did a video of the ride on TN-32, I'll post the links in the other world. I have a GoPro (old one) that I connect to the bike and it comes out pretty nice. If you don't use the other means of communication, PM me and I'll send you the links.
Personally, I enjoyed my rides in the hills of TX much over this type of riding. It was very technical and very intense without much of a break of doing exactly what Tim described. One funny part of these roads was you'd see people through the woods coming in your direction (farther away) and then you realize, oh, I'm going that same way
A lot of turns were 180's and worse, my least favorite were 180's to the right going uphill. Really brutal to manage with the Street Glide (had to drop to 1st).
So I'm back in the cold, sick state. Woke up to snow on the ground in the Poconos this morning where I stopped to sleep for the night. Windy and cold at the home front, but birdies are happy to be back in their larger environment.
Oh, got a nice cracked windshield on the way home (some truck over 1/4 mile in front kicked up something that put a foot long crack on the passenger side). Also lost a rear hub cover, actually saw it spinning across the road one way, then the other and wound up in the median. There was no way to stop and fetch it so another thing to fix...Roads up here really suck...everything has to be nailed down or it's on the floor or falling off on the outside

Carl, did you ever do the ride up from Cottonwood to Jerome in Arizona? If you did do that run was your G0Pro filming the road? I drove up in my Suzuki Grand Vitara but because of my fear of heights I had my eyes closed most of the way.

From their web site:

3. Droppings must be cleaned up and disposed of properly. Dog boxes are located throughout the park. DO NOT put animal waste into the trash containers in restrooms!
4. No leashes shall be fastened to trees, shrubs, water hydrants, etc.
5. Pets must be kept quiet and not left unattended. Pets are not permitted to dig holes.
6. Our neighboring farm animals may have restricted diets so please do not feed them.
