Yep! Brings back the day when I could see a car rolling down the highway and immediately identify it. Not anymore.

My first car was a 1951 Ford. Second car was a 1955 Oldsmobile coup. Both were great cars. Unfortunately I joined the military and couldn't keep the '55. When Earlene and I got married (can you imagine I have put up with her for 59 years) we bought a 1950 Sudebaker for $50. Got it home and checked the oil and it didn't have any on the dip stick. We drove that care 4 times back and forth from San Diego to Texas City. I would carry 3 five gallon cans of reclaimed oil in the trunk and all our possessions in the back seat. Every 200 miles I'd stop and check the gas and put in a few quarts of oil. It was a 6 Cyl, Std Shift with overdrive. Remember the overdrive when you had to pull a cable from the dash to engage the overdrive.

Nice little car but you couldn't tell if it was coming or going.

Ahhh the memories...

Glad I still have memories of that old Hudson, 50 model I think...

Oh, so I did have the answer in my original cluster of guesses, OK...
Somewhere on here a couple years ago someone posted a picture of his Hudson, that thing was sweet.
It would take me a while to find the post, but I'll try.

Didn't take as long as I thought!
It was Dirk "Route 66", (RIP), who posted it, though I don't think it was his rig. Very cool, link below......

Funny how a simple post about our first car stirred up so many memories.
Next up, how about our first wives?

My first car was a 56 olds with an iffy 348 so me and my buddies yanked it and I found a 396 (??) V8 to replace it with and that car had real go power.

My best friend in high school had a Lincoln Premiere with a 390 (??) engine and that thing was quickish off the line but it too a few minutes to get to top speed which was about 115 but the bad part it also took a few minutes to get to full stop.

I had a Studebaker Lark that had a small V-8 that was quickly supplemented (thanks to a great shops class auto teacher) with a Ford 312 and would that thing light up its wheels at traffic lights. Until it got well known it won a lot of Friday night impromptu cruise drags in my home town.

Now I drive a 4 cylinder AWD SUV That we park behind our house as we travel.

Moose, my dad owned a 1960 Lark 8 with a 259 V8 3 speed plus true overdrive. always wanted that car.

I bought this in mid 70 & enjoyed till I passed it to son & "Uncle Ralph" to restore...

Just a couple years ago, it was sold for 10X what I paid for it...

Didn't have to trade this 400ci, had plenty of pep....

BTW, I should have given you an "Honorable Mention"...

A thunderstorm passed by about the time I was composing it, and when entered, sure enough, the Internet went down for a few minutes,

I thought it went through, and by the time it came back, several other great stories had arrived...

My apologies...

My first car was a 1954 Meteor (Canadian Ford) after that I had 2 55's Then a 59 Ford Galaxy and then about 30 or 40 more Chevy Fords and Chrysler products.

I did stick with one woman but after buying all those cars it was iffy at times!

Most were White with Blue stripe, the Blue with White was the only other choice.

YES, that Hudson/Camper combo was spectacular!.. Mine was a brown. The reverse locked up & hard to get back to forward. Maybe why I grew up so "Backward"... Of course, many would jump in and say that is an "Arky" thang...

I haven't heard anything from Tim about past wives/girlfriends...

Spill it Tim... Set something in motion...

Well let me tell you about this beautiful girl I dated in high school. We had lots of fun together that continued for about 4 years then things changed drastically . Funny how women are like that.
I look back at those days and celebrate each year. Yep tomorrow we celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary . Still a beautiful girl and still having fun together .

Nola she tends to quote you often when she tells people that Iím ďOnly her first husband ď
