Nola she tends to quote you often when she tells people that I’m “Only her first husband “

Well, I cannot honestly top that !! Congratulations !!

Hey, I had a '66 beetle. Had to keep a charge on the battery overnight or it would go dead. I used a diode and a light bulb in series. Wattage of light bulb was the way to control the amperage to the battery.

Lordy! The first car I remember was a Hudson. Not mine, though, my parents'. 1940s time frame, but I wouldn't know the model year. Suicide doors, maybe?

It had a package shelf in the back where I could lie & watch the treetops whiz by overhead, or the night sky that never moved.
Daddy had to put it in reverse in order to make it up Pike's Peak.

See? I *am* older than dirt! Not older than Wayne or Martin, though.

Cheers!

Well now, let me tell about my first cars.

The first was a 1933 Wolseley Hornet sedan. It had an oh so sweet 1200cc in line OHC 6cyl engine with a free wheel device which, by rotating a dash mounted knob, would disconnect the gearbox from the prop shaft. You lost engine braking of course but you could then change gear without using the clutch. It had a car radio which comprised three units - a footwell mounted box containing the speaker and electronics, a dash control unit looking very much like a conventional head except the volume and tuning knobs were connected by bowden cables running round to the speaker box, and, get this, a 12v motor generator set in the trunk which provided the high tension voltage for the radio's valves (tubes). That must have cost a fortune in it's day. That car was sold after it failed the MOT.

My second car was a 1932 MG J2 which was great fun to drive. It was able to keep up with the more expensive cars owned by my pals at Jaguars in our motor club rallies and driving tests. I pushed it a little too hard until it threw a rod whereupon I then changed out the engine for a Ford E93A flathead 4.
The photo below shows me in UJ 859 outside my folks house in North London.

I then traded it + £30 for my XK 120 (the one I much later found in New Zealand). Now, that was a great car - you either loved it or hated it depending on the weather. The photo of the XK shows me studying the torn off muffler on the rough old coast road north of Dubrovnik. I planted that in the pile of rocks on the left side.

Happy days!

A message from Barb.

Hi all,

Our little Mutant Mascot Sena is at this moment in poor health and desperately needs our Ohms and Prayers. So if your deity allows followers to pray for a cute little four legged friend I would appreciate you doing so. She is diabetic and has congenital heart problems so getting a good grip on what ails her is rather difficult. Please hold her in your hearts and thoughts.

Thanks Barb

Sena. We all love you dearly, and wish you a quick recovery.
Your Momma will do her best, and the rest of RVMdom sends prayers and Ohms.
We love you Sena!

Turbohms and prayers for Sena, (and Barb too)......because we all know it's difficult to watch our pets/companions, (who are more than that)....they're family, our dear friends unconditionally.....who are ailing.
