Life is great. The alternative sucks.
I'm just a little bit behind you Martin. Don't want to catch you, and don't want to pass you so keep up the good work.

Martin, since you're British, do you measure your age in hogsheads or do you use Whitworth?
England and America, two countries separated by a common language. - George Bernard Shaw (I believe)

I'm not sure about hogsheads, (vast quantities of ale come to mind) but I do have a good set of BSF & BSW spanners (wrenches) and sockets. Unfortunately, I don't have many Whitworth nuts to work on. UK then went to A/F and then onto metric.

England not only brought English to its colonies, it brought RHD to the roads. Most of the Commonwealth still drive on the correct side of the road - what happened here?
Oh yes, a revolution.

So are you saying, way back before the auto was even invented, the horses went on one side of the road here and the opposite side of the road there? Curious folk want to know!

Carl,
Years ago BD (Before Dennis) Victoria BC had a huge huge round-a-bout at a major intersection in the city. Highway One, Hillside, Douglas, Government and Gorge all came together at that point, After a few years of angst the city planning department pulled out the circle and installed a convoluted and totally weird traffic light system. Shortly after I moved in an located my business office near that corner there was a huge push to redo the traffic light system to stop that corner from being a constant point of congestion. During one of the meetings when the old traffic circle was mentioned someone on the audience asked why the traffic circle was removed if they were being installed all over the country; the meeting chair looked at the questioner and simply stated; "Silly Brits keep trying to go into the circle going left."

I've posted this before. This is a bi- directional roundabout in Swindon known locally by the name of a children's TV program, The Magic Roundabout.
You enter first a mini R then chose right or left. My dad started to do that in his later days at conventional roundabouts and we had to take his keys away.

As an aside, I've never had any problem parallel parking in the UK. Over here, I tend to have to make several moves. (that's when the Jeep's not doing it for me)

Hope this works

I suppose we have to remember they were there first .... but then the Americans have evolved, right?

I remember reading somewhere that the practice of keeping to the left started in the days of feudalism. Most people being right handed held their swords and lances in their right hand. It was all about battle! And guess what with the road rage as it is today, nothing has evolved.

It goes way back before then. Just search the internet.

When we kicked the Brits out of the country, (some stayed and drive an RV) all ties were wanting to be broken, hence U.S. drives on Right (correct) side. The majority of the world drives on the right side. Only 76 countries drive on the left. However, trying to figure out how many countries there are in the world will give you conflicting numbers. Are there 249 or 195? Depends on who you ask.
