I did Bryce Canyon on horseback. There's a totally amazing perspective when you look up to see the formations rather than looking down. This was before the new knees and there was zero chance of me hiking down. It was worth the $ in my book. And the high altitude makes it harder to do anything strenuous.
Now donkeys down into the Grand Canyon? I dunno if I'd do that.

Yes. Sue and I and a friend from UK went on that train ride a few years back. Excellent! The package included two nights in the GCR motel in Williams and a couple or so in the Madgwick (sp) Lodge at the south rim. There was no dining car but all cars had singing cowboy entertainers. A bunch of them, called the Cataract Creek Gang staged a gun fight with the local Marshall in Williams before we boarded the train (which was hauled by diesel, not steam unfortunately) and later stopped and boarded the train on our way back from the rim, demanding money to pay for Breakfast at McDonalds. Great experience and highly recommended.
Whilst at the rim, the three of us took a side combo trip - a flight over the canyon to Page then a guided tour by Navahos in 4x4s to a slot canyon called Antelope canyon then a smooth water raft ride down the Colorado from the dam at Lake Powell to Lee"s Ferry ( including an on shore buffet lunch) and finally a bus ride home to the lodge. A truly memorable trip, enhanced by the fact that the organizers had lost our reservation in their computer and the plane was full. They then called in another pilot and he took the three of us privately in a little 182 on the first leg to Page.
Happy days!

When I see nature, whether from looking down or looking up, or even looking thru trees...... I see beauty, i see art, but i see science, i see history, i see cultures before me, and it is all so AWESOME...... We are just so fortunate to be where we are.
To be able to be a RVMutant is just another great thing
Lol On a lighter note, i dont ever count the rock layers, or the elevation.... Those are numbers.....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Annie.....

Some of the best mini or midi-C's are of a spontaneous variety. Like "oh my gosh, we're only 50 miles from you". Keep an eye out on the location of fellow mutants. A mini-C is just a PM away.
A gathering of mutants can be well organized, over organized, unorganized, or totally "let's just wing it". The important thing is to settle down with fellow mutants for a while and open a new chapter in our life's journey. Each person can announce a regional gathering of mutants and ask interested folks to make reservations for such and such dates at such and such campground in Anywhere, North America. I think you would be surprised by the numbers of mutants that are within 500 miles of that location or makes up a schedule that would put them close enough to attend.
Everyone has a "bucket list" of places they want to see with a limited time (during good weather season) to visit their new section of the rainbow so it's sometimes impossible to arrange to be at a GC. However, it might be possible to attend 3 out of 6 regional midi-C's and meet new mutants on every occasion.
My two cents worth.

Hew Pawpaw Steve didn't you take the grands on that train ride from Williams to the Grand Canyon? Tim wants to know bout it? When we were there it was booked for two days out so we didn't get the opportunity.

I will have these maracas for the auction. Nola put the first layer of nice glitter paint. Any artists out there that could decoratively paint Hawaiian things on them?
Nola will also bring a crochetted doilie.

Oh! So now you are a tongue biter. Good fer u.
p.s., when you coming down again?
A friend here in TC (yes, I do have more than one) took the four legged trip to the Canyon floor. He described it as a scary experience if you looked down. Those Mules/Donkeys/Jackasses (whatever they were) are as sure footed as anything. He said that in many places it was so narrow that looking at their feet was scary, but they made it down and back up. Sorry, not for me. I can get dizzy looking down from a step stool. (Not really, but i think I might have to pee!)
I forgot about that. That would be a nice trip.

Can't say right now Wayne. I've been so Bzy at w**k Rollin out this new account that I'm focused on gettin it done so I don't have to miss Redux. Believe me I need a getaway if only for a few days. I had forgotten how much time it takes when I'm there. I need to re- semi-retire!
