That just looks like a plate of snot to me, Dave. Most people I've seen eating them douse them with cocktail sauce and swallow them whole. So all they taste is the condiment.

This was sashimi at Oishi, which means delicious in Japanese. Yes it was!

Hiya, Mrb1 II! Still hungry?

Stick around a while. You may find we are contagious and you might find yourself in the Sick Ward with the rest of us STMs (from the Mutant Lexicon: Sick Twisted Mutants.) [emoji12]

Yeah those shells just hike the price. Chances are the buy the snot that comes in a jar and just reuse the shells. Ever wonder how many other lips have been on those shells? If they aren't shucked in front of you there is always that risk.

I used to buy them by the gallon for the boss lady's puffer fish, Sophia. I had to put them into 2 ounce condiment cups and freeze them. Made my skin crawl every time I handled them.

At least Sophia bit into them. What came out of the middle was truly gross. Despite them being her favorite treat, I had to ration them 'cause the slime and innards would foul the water of her 220 gallon salt water aquarium.

Add to packing list:
1) Peptobismol for the bait eaters
2) Imodium for the bait eaters
3) scratch the above, it might be entertaining!

LOL. I used to eat them that way & still like cocktail sauce. But it occurred to me one day that there must be more to oysters than that, & there is. Some folks inhale, others chew. [emoji39] Others abstain!

My inlaws (on the south coast of England) always go for a walk along the shore after the big New Years & Christmas dinners. Fresh seafood is generally there, free for the picking up, & I do. They insist I eat it in the kitchen ... where they can't see it being eaten raw. [emoji57] Funny. Their ancestors & mine all found & ate raw seafood & counted themselves lucky for it. (Oh yes, then some bright spark discovered fire!)

Horses for courses, as they say: raw/cooked; rare/well done; Apple/Android.... Aren't we lucky to have all these choices, & to be able to rib each other about them in good humor!

Thanks, Tim! Once again, the kind, caring one. And on the entertainment committee too! [emoji7]

Do you realize that you have stumbled into a group of escaped lunatics? We call ourselves RV Mutants, amongst other names. You sound like our sort of folks. That is if you have the stomach for lots of fun and a tad of teasing.
Good "catch" Barb...

That's right (loosely translated) Mr. Bill. Are you an RV Mutant Too!

Tell us something your RV Doesn't have and You Don't Miss... and declare the Journey is the Destination. You can be the next bait/no bait eatin Mutant to ride the rainbow in style! Whadda ya say...

It was superb, Sue, as I'm sure your Oishi was!
BTW, I'm a chewer, to savor each unique flavor within the oyster!
In MN, the fall harvest of fresh beef and pork was celebrated with freshly ground raw meat, with onion and spices, in a huge bowl. It was shared at the local pub. Crackers optional. There were never any leftovers!
Some folks don't appreciate the delicacy, the joy, of the foods I grew up with.

Steak Tartare! [emoji39] I obviously favored the wrong bars!

I never make ground beef patties w/o snitching some. Sometimes plain, sometimes w/ salt or a little Worcestershire sauce. Om-nom!

Is there a genetic - dare I say it - mutation that causes some of us to enjoy raw foods & some to ... not?

Maybe we were the ones who didn't discover fire.
