The Big Boy came through here during the summer.
The tender car itself on that engine is larger than a lot of locomotive engines!
I have an H-O scale model train of the Big Boy.

Was out of town Saturday, away from the computer. Traveled on Sunday and managed to trip and fall flat on my face at a Flying J during a gas/lunch stop. Cut up a finger, bruises and scrapes and scratched up one lens of my glasses (fortunately I can see OK without them, just not supposed to drive. Hah.). Went to visit Carol's son today so just getting caught up tonight.
We are in a really nice little campground Called Grandpa's Farm just off I-70 near the Indiana/Ohio border. It's next to a state road but the road is closed for repairs about 10 miles north of here so traffic is pretty minimal. Been a bit cool at night but was pleasant today. Gentle rain falling right now.
Load up and travel Wednesday - a grueling 60-some miles back to the place where we spent the summer for a couple of days so we can visit the DD, DSIL and the particularly DGKs. Then Friday we finally begin the trek back to Yuma for the winter...

If you are still in dateland it will run right by the Dateland Palms Village RV park. That's where we stayed last year on our way to the GC in Texas.

Every morning on my outside walk with the dogs, I love to listen to the sights and sounds of our new home.... The lizards are so cute, I am still learning about the variety of fish that can be caught from our seawall.... mangrove snapper seem to be the most common... I am having to learn what the new and different birds are, and keep 2 bird books right beside binoculars... my current favorites are the sand hill cranes...
But this morning was special... I was standing in my front yard and heard a different noise, it was more of a squeel... so I looked up and there were a pair of adult bald eagles just flying casually, making sweeping curves all around our street. They did this for a full 5 minutes, before going on to the next area..... so close that I could see the different tail feathers...I did not have my camera/phone, but this is what they were like.... Awesome, they are local... according to my facebook friends here.

If I missed your birthday, Happy, happy birthday young lady! How did the art show go?
We made it to Ruskin, FL on Sunday. We're ready to enjoy about 6 months of the Florida sunshine. So muties, feel free to arrange a mini curiosity whenever the feeling hits. We're always willing to drive 100+ miles to meet with our fellow mutants for lunch or such.
Never been to our park when it was so empty. That won't last long. Lots of changes done to the park. Some good, some ?????, some only at the rumor stage. New Arizonia based owner group is not too open with the real "skinny".
Well, back to relearning the "sit back and relax" method of living.

That's lovely, Di! You'll get your pics, I'm sure, and I agree about the 'zards being cute.
Art show? Tell all!
Cheers!

That's a bit more than a day trip....it's hundreds of miles away from Ruskin.
edit: just checked, it's just under 500 miles.

Pensicola is 493 miles or 6 hours 46 minutes from Ruskin. Day trip is unlikely but a 2 - 3 day trip is maybe doable. Will need to think about the possibilities.

We left the house at 8:45 this morning headed to Mohawk Pass to see the Big Boy steam engine. I took 3 iPads and my iPhone to take video of it coming around the curve there. So it was over an hour late and it’s impossible to start 4 cameras without at least 30 seconds notice. I failed miserably there so I drove back to Dateland where I could see the train coming for more than a mile. The train stopped at a nearby rest area for 30 minutes which gave me time to get to the next stop and get set up. And again it was late.
But, I did finally get decent video of the train. We finally got home at 12:30, had lunch and are now headed for a nap.

Best of luck! I bet you'll sell out and have special orders.
