There is snow all over the ground here in Dateland. It doesn’t melt even though we got up to 70* here today. Ok, it is styrofoam snow from Bob cutting the formed insulation panels with power saws and then attacking them with a knife or hacksaw blade.

We may never get all of it off our clothes. Lily walks in it and the static makes it hard to brush off.

I'm going to finish this thought on our other venue for privacy.

Thanks, Sis!

I don’t care if “they” watch me, or surveil me. There is nothing that I have that could possibly interest them!
Vagabonds that travel mostly haphazardly for years are not worthy targets. We get fuel, see nifty places, eat too much, and laugh with friends. Unless they want to infiltrate our group to figure out what makes us tick, or why we are so happy, they have nothing tangible to gain!
But, then, who’s to say we don’t have any “moles”?
Wayne, are you the leak?

Someone got me this pool table light and it was packed tightly in styrofoam. When I went to get it out, it was like an explosion of little pellets of styrofoam and I wound up having to use a vacuum cleaner to get it off my clothes and all. Never saw anything like it and never want to again, I couldn't believe that stuff. Your description of snow reminded me of that adventure, it wasn't something I ever saw before. Unreal stuff.

The Big Issues are whether you have a right to determine who collects that information and the right to determine how the information is used.

Most folks probably don't care that their daily doings are monitored, stored, and processed. But when you find out that you don't know how your daily information is processed, what's being looked for, or how it will be used, then things get hairier.

For example, your buying habits are used to sell advertising that targets you and buyers like you. It's a big business, worth billions. Don't you think you should have a share of that income that comes from selling your data? You would if you had the right to determine how your data is used.

In another example, governments are collecting all your phone calls, emails, surfing habits, GPS locations, surveillance footage, and purchasing information. How do you think they are going to use it? You don't know; but it's a safe bet that it's not going to be to your benefit.

Lastly, there's a difference between secrecy and privacy. To put it broadly, it's no secret that everyone poops, but we'd all like a little privacy while we do it. Right now, privacy in the US is the equivalent of having a toilet in Times Square with no walls around it -- and you are being told by business and government that it's not possible to change that.

Whether you think public availability of your private information is okay or not, we should all have the choice as to how our information is used.

For extra points name the movie.

Re targeted ads:- Upon Wayne's suggestion, I placed an order for some pork pies and a steak and kidney pie with Parker's, a specialist in good British soul food. I have to say the pies were delicious and very authentic and I would dearly love to repeat the order if it wasn't for the high postal cost (they were packed in a large cooler with black ice). However, ever since, I have been inflicted with ads from Parkers buried in news items, showing mouth-wateringly beautiful pictures of pork pies and other tasty delicacies.
What's a fella supposed to do.

Hi Miketo,

Since I started us down the surveillance rabbit hole, I thought I would answer. I agree with you, we should have more of the rights you wrote about, but without some mass uproar about how things are being done, I don’t see things changing.

I could contact my congressional representatives, start a grass roots protest movement or do something stupid to get publicity on this. The way I see it I have two choices, get mad and do something or sit back and except what has happened as just part of modern life.

What’s right and what’s practical to change or two entirely different matters. At this point in my life I’m a little less inclined to get adamant about issues. No one I know has been harmed by any of the surveillance and information gathering you wrote about, so as of now I'm going to accept this quietly.

Did you know that you stumbled into a group of misfit RVers called the RV Mutants? For the past 6+ years we have been harassing each other on this thread and trying to stay out of trouble with the moderators. Notice the post count of over 80,000? We yak a lot. We're like a big goofy family, but with a lot less family drama.

If you'll go back to read the first post in this thread you'll see how we got started. If you feel that you are an RV Mutant and would like to officially join us and be assigned a number. You'll also be privy to the info contained in the RVM Ancient Scrolls and be taught our revered high sign.

Some of us get together for a week or more of fun and playing together. We were last in the Texas Hill Country this past April.

In order to be appointed an RV Mutant you must first pass a test. 1) name something your RV doesn’t have that you do NOT miss (such as a hot tub, wings or a solid gold toilet)
2) Declare that "The Journey is the Destination" (our group motto)

That's it! Pass the test and you will be appointed your very own RVM number and be welcomed en mass.
