In 1962 I lived about 40 miles from D.C., in Towson, MD. I remember we would have to go out in the hall at Pleasant Plains Elementary School and duck into a ball up against the lockers.
Like that would have really saved us.

In 1962 I lived about 40 miles from D.C., in Towson, MD. I remember we would have to go out in the hall at Pleasant Plains Elementary School and duck into a ball up against the lockers.
Like that would have really saved us.
I remember very similar drills in elementary school ! Now though, if I'm in that position, it's usually the following morning of a good potato vodka night!
Our drills were to get under the school desk and roll up into a ball. I guess that way if the bomb blew, you could just roll into oblivion rather than scrape the ground in rough terrain. Never did figure out why close your eyes, you aren't going to see anything if the thing blows anyway.
