Reservations

What has everyone’s experience been regarding reservations? Are you planning ahead and reserving. Things have certainly changed since the pandemic.

I just reserved a 35 day trip from Virginia to Arizona and back. I reserved every stop in advance which works for my situation. I still work so I need to know I have a place.

I also booked Independence day reservations for myself and a park model rental for the daughters family.

It was almost booked full 5 months before hand.

we've been reserving for a few years before the virus. at this stage in life we prefer a FHU park with a clear view of the southern sky. takes a bit of work with RV Parky, CampgroundReviews.com and Google Earth but it pays off.

Trip in May and July, everything reserved except one stop for the May Trip. Talked to a campground and ask about reserving sites for the night, call ahead that day or make plans in advance. He told me, a few years back, you could call that day and get a site. Now he suggested make reservations. With the way fuel is rising things will change. I think, on weekends CG will fill up if close to a city and there is something to do close by.

Reservations all the way. Been working on a 65 nite trip from coast to coast and all but two nights are reservations. BTW the state and national parks are no easy task to book. Even on the week days for the spring and summer.

We full time and up to now we usually plan about a month in advance. This year we are planning and making reservations nearly a year in advance.

I am not sure I like this new world order.

We made reservations a year in advance last year for this year. 4 small trips planned after we just returned from Florida this December. We have January reservations for 2023 in Florida now and will be adding February today. It's the new way at this time. I expect things to normalize eventually. Just don't know when.

I can't afford the time or fuel to just hit the road and hope to find a place to stay so all my outings are planned well in advance with reservations. So far I'm reserved out to the end of September with 32 nights. For summer vacations I start planning and making reservation in November for a July outing.

It's a lot easier to cancel a reservation, and eat the admin costs if there are any, if circumstances change.

I have booked 40 reservations for a 9,000 miles trip over 111 days. With a large gasser I also mapped out fuel stops. I have been booking as soon as reservation windows open. I use Rv trip wizard and it has been invaluable to me. The whole process has consumed a lot of my time. But for me it has reduced some of the anxiety of doing 7,000 of these miles with just me and my 3 year old son.

In my mind I am already planning what I want to do in the summer of 2023 as some places have an 11 month reservation window so come July start to make reservations again.

We reserve spots.. If something happens: search for a nearest Home Depot parking lot?

My wife called 2 reserved places recently to see if we could add on a few days early arrival . No Problem.

We do the same thing. Personally I think it's fun to plan the trip, use RV Parky, RV Trip Wizard, Google Maps, the TSD fuel card, etc. We've not done anything as far out that you have but do have a western trip scheduled for 2024 after we retire.

I used to go to the Texas State Parks, but their reservation always shows everything unavailable, no matter how far out I look. I guess they want it that way to keep people out. I only go to Corps parks now due to that.
