No clue, you're well into accountant and lawyer territory there.

If you do the LLC thing in MT it's property of the corporation, not your personal property. I have no idea what that means come tax time. You'd be a corporation selling a brand new asset to an individual...that smells of an audit magnet to me (though I'm not a bean counter, just a software engineer who has to deal with a lot of lawyers and some bean counters so I'm always paranoid)

First off, an LLC is not a corporation and is not a business just because of its name. It is an asset protection entity. The only way someone can determine if they can use a Montana LLC legally is to do an extensive research on the residency laws of their home state and then determine if they can comply with those laws and that they can document that compliance. If they can check those two boxes then they can use the Montana LLC. Of course, that is assuming they are willing to spend whatever may be necessary to defend their choice of the Montana LLC.

We live in Georgia, bought in North Carolina. The dealer charged us the Georgia and local sales tax. 7%

As far as getting a drivers license in OR it's not hard but you've got to have a real place to live being renting or owning.

We've thought about this for our move. We don't know for sure if we're going to make our permanent home in OR, WA or ID so our thought is to move to OR and then take 6 months to figure it out. During this time we'll keep most of our stuff we're keeping with in the RV or in storage. This gives us plenty of time to check out all three states before making the final move.

Using OR as our staging area is totally legal and there isn't really much they can do about it if when its all said and done we end up not picking OR as our final home.

The one other thing about our plans is that we'll be ordering both our new truck and fiver which will take a couple months just to get them. So a six month stay is reasonable.
The thing with OR is the income tax of about 9% when I worked there. Lived in WA so I got taxed on both WA purchases AND OR income tax. And WA sales/use tax is close to 10% on vehicles. Tags are relatively cheap in WA, the Magna cost me $105 per year and the cars about $80, but I could have bought a new CR-V EX-L for what I paid in sales tax on the used MH. We are just across the river from Portland so have to get smog checks every two years but have never failed one yet.
Taxes are going up, my income isn't!
