It's the Golden Age Pass that you can buy once you turn 62. It gets you into all NP for free. Gets you 1/2 price for campsites. Good for your life time. Even at $80 it's a deal.

The official name is the America The Beautiful Inter Agency Senior Pass. Yes, quite a mouthful. At the same time as the senior pass is going from $10 to $80, Department of the Interior is introducing an annual Senior pass for $20. Keep the receipts for 4 of them and exchange them for a lifetime pass. Just to clarify, the pass is good for the base entry fee at National Parks, National Wildlife Refuges etc. It does not cover additional fees like parking, guided tours etc. It admits the pass holder and all occupants of the same vehicle. Even at $80 it's a great bargain.

Without a doubt the best bargain in town. bdickson explained it very well. No one should leave home without one. We camp at an area COE for $13.00 a night with full hookups; board the dog at a local kennel for $15.00 a night.

All National Parks, gets you and whoever is in the vehicle in for free. Basic camping may be 1/2 off, elec and water extra. But, contract run camping is NOT 1/2 off most places, and most parks are now contract run.

I've had my senior pass for a while, but now I'm worried the numbers printed on it will eventually wear off, and it won't be any good anymore. Is it legal to have 2 passes? If so, I might get another one before the price goes up, and put in storage for that day when the numbers on my existing pass are unreadable.

Your number is printed on both sides. My front numbers are well worn after seven years of use. But the numbers on the back are still very readable. I don't believe you are entitled to 2, They check by name and driver license number.

chindog, you can have 2 passes. I bought another one while visiting Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota last November. I even mentioned to the park ranger that I thought the pass they were selling looked liked the one I had in the MH. They did not check or verify anything. Sure enough, after I got home from being stranded in Bismarck for two days because of a blizzard, I checked and it was the same card. Now I don't leave home without one.

Just came from 21 days in Teton's and Yellowstone. Just a one week "combo" pass to both is $50. ($30 just for one park).
Yes, 50% off the national park campground "base rate" so if the campground has electric sites for $52 and non-electric for $28. You get 50% off the $28 site ($14) and then add the electric site fee. So a electric site would be $38.
$80 for the life time pass is a deal.
My only worry is if they shut down the government with a budget stalemate. Sept. Oct.?
