I recommend watching "Taking Chance" as it is an outstanding short movie about escorting a fallen soldier home. It is free on Amazon Video for Prime members. Have tissues handy.

Taking Chance is about a Marine KIA. And you better have tissues handy for sure.

Just saw this and felt it worthwhile to post. Sorry the picture would not Copy......
There is a picture of a Navy Petty Officer Third Class at the grave of a Medal of Honor Recipient with the wording "Do not regret growing older. It is a privilege denied to many." Words for all to think about and remember. I know too many of the fallen.

After seeing the awesome movie I learned that Chance Phelps dad is an artist who does Native American and Western themed art. You can find his work online.

PBS always honors our troops KIA at the end of the week on their nightly newscast "in silence" with a photo and hometown info.

The media does not care about them or any other Military member who has died. I'm glad to see that there are still folks that feel the same.

You've certainly got THAT right, but let some journalist get killed while in a war zone trying to win a Pulitzer Prize, and it will be front page news for WEEKS!

I've personally overheard Soldiers "escorting" journalists into risky situations being told "If the journalist gets injured, you'd better be DEAD!"

Ends up the soldiers are more concerned about the journalist's welfare than they are about the mission, or their OWN welfare and end up getting killed themselves.

It's difficult to keep your focus on the business of waging war when the journalist you are "protecting" can destroy you, your livelihood, and your take away your freedom if they slant their story with their own agenda.

It's important to understand who the real enemy is . . . .

the problem is with our news reporting companies. The Washington post for example has become a "news speculator and rumor rag" making up news off the top of their heads. I read one headline of theirs, it has the word "might" in it. Only "rumor rags" speculate on what might happen. So, to sell pap's they report what they think is important, rather than report news that is important to the folks that the sell to. I'm not expecting it to change any time soon........ If any of you folks know of a "pap" that reports the actual news, let me know, I'd be interested to read that.

Well Indy... You can say that again,, (And thanks to the power of QUOTE /QUOTE you just did)

They make a big deal about some looser who, due to his party hardy life style, dies young from drug abuse or some disease (s)he got from sharing needles, and ignore those who show their love of their fellow may by laying down their own lives so that WE do not have to (Greater love has no man, or so it is written).

We need to change this. And then what is worse the media ignores FACTS and FACT checking, but rather puts out whatever was in the press release, UNCHECKED, and of course UNTRUE in far too many cases..

Tempting to go political but.. I will refrain. Instead I will present a few facts about the quality of Media Reporting today, THESE ARE FACTS and can be easily checked with one exception.

Local (WSAV Savannah GA) TV station has a news anchor that appears in an add telling how important the news is.

"In the mid 1990's there was a bad flood, There was no Internet back then (1) and there were no cell pones (2) so the only way I had to know my family was safe was the news.

(1): ARPA net linked colleges and universities during much, if not all of the 1980's (Verifable) IN 1987 I, as part of a part time job, Processed information downloaded from a USENET group to a Commodore 64 transferring it to a Commodore Amiga via Protocol (Had to write some of the software).
In 1988, ARPA net was declassified and became the INTERNET so the INTERNET existed in the mid 90's for at least 5 years.

The one you can not verify, at least not easily
In 1983, I got on line with a VIC-MODEM and a VIC-20, Connected to a service of H&R Block, Compuserve Information Service, today I'm a moderator in one of what remains (Don't even ask the URL I won't do that to you) Of course it pre-dated my hooking up, I also hooked up with local Bullitien boards and FIDO NET.. But .. Well.. Some of that came later (Like 85,86) all were nation wide and BEYOND save for the local boards, AT LEAST A DECADE before that storm.

(2) The first radio phones came out before I was born (I'm 66) and evolved to cell phones, in the 1970's I'm told (thought it was the 80s) by 1990 people were ripping out their hundred a month wire lines and going all cellular for half that price or less.. I had a bag set about 1992, but I tell a "War story" about a 9-1-1 Cell Call I answered one December.. I was working at Post 29 when that happened. I left 29 in Oct of 1991 and never returned save for brief "Breaks" due to bomb threats.

So that call had to come in no later than 12/1990. Cell phones pre-existed that storm.

This is how good the "Media" is at telling the truth.. Yes, he may have been in college in the 90's and yes there was a storm. but all the important stuff... Total lie.

AND THE STATION KNOWS IT.

Fascinating info. I do remember the cell phones of the 70's. Our veterinarian had one in his truck. You'd place a call, and it would hit a relay center or several of them depending where you were, and eventually reach the party you're calling. It could take a minute or several minutes, but the sound was clear.

Seems like Korea was plenty. Vietnam was more than enough. So sorry for the dead and injured continuing to pay for lessons unlearned.

I can tell you this, and you can believe every word, I will NEVER FORGET what I have for freedom came on the back of someone who gave all to see that I have it, and I have never asked for the check back that I signed for "UP TO AND INCLUDING MY LIFE".

We have become the Roman Empire, where gladiators are more respected than warriors. God bless these men as we thank them.

I saw much suffering in the 60s onward from visiting VA Hospitals. Worst I ever saw was a very young man in a wheelchair, only a body and a head. I'll never EVER forget the look in that kids eyes. I almost fainted and that's no lie.

Also many WW11 and Korean vets in that Decatur Ga..VA back then. I'd like to see more of congresses kids involved, maybe things would be different.

With the new all Volunteer Services we have one of the best forces that America has ever had, and my hats off to them as the go about their jobs with true belief in what they do.
They are well trained, and have some amazing equipment to use. May they all get home safely and may God Bless them all. They are the only thing holding the line that has gone unbroken for 240 years.

My home has Green lights in the lamp post out front for the Veterans, and at front door one green on the right and a Blue for the Police on the left. There is an American Flag in my front yard. At my age, that's about all I can do.
If you wish please join in by replacing a bulb or two with a Green and a Blue.
