Social Security payments

DW is now collecting SS. She submitted her application including a request to collect on my record, being higher then hers.

All went through and she is getting her award but it comes in two direct deposits.

One deposit is what she would get on her record. That comes on the 3rd week, based on her DOB.

She also gets a second deposit. That comes on the 4th week, based on my DOB and that makes up the difference using my record.

Is 2 deposits a month the normal way SS does this ?

No way, they will take back one of them when they discover what has happened.

Yes, when she collects an additional amount based on your social security. Same as mine does and has been doing for several years. That’s the way it’s done.

Those of you who get it in one deposit, are your and your DWs birthdays near the same day of the month ?

Unless things have changed since I retired in 2014, you can only draw one SS check. They usually go by the highest amount. I would certainly be checking on that, because they will come after any over payments. She should have been given a choice to either choose her SS account or your account. I would call asap!!!!

SS paperwork seems to confirm 2 payments and they add up to what she would get on my record.

Is HER deposit on YOUR earnings record, or HERS ?

We get 3 deposits, 1 for me and 2 for her.

Prior to 2015 SS payments based on Spouse/Ex-Spouse benefits......
That changed in 2015....benefits are on persons record PLUS the difference that would equal the benefits they would receive based on Spouse/Ex-Spouse

SS payments are based on DOB
1st thru 10th day ----2nd Wednesday of the month
11th thru 20th day,,,,3rd Wednesday of the month
21st thru 31st day----4th Wednesday of the month
