The longest RV?

I was watching "Going RV" last night and during the commercials they put up a question with multiple answers. The question was "How many states require a special DL for RV's over 45' long?" The answer was 17. I didn't know that any RV on the market today was over 45' ! I think they may have been referring to the total length including toad or trailer.

I guess you'd have to go through each state's, requirements individually , to check for length limits. The requirements I hear most often involve weight and air brakes.
Here in B.C.
Testing and license, upgrades are required for air brake equipped coaches, and any trailer over 10,000 lbs. GVWR.

I like watching "Going RV" but I wonder where they get their information for the factoids. I saw one a week or so ago about the average miles a RV'er puts on their RV's in a given year - they had 4,500 miles and I swear a while back I saw the same question with 6,000 miles.

RE: Lengths - I found this website RV Driver's License Requirements and they only list three states with length restrictions. Following the links back to the state websites don't shed any additional information however most seem to go by weight and combinations. Generally unless exempted by state statue over 26,000 GVWR you need a CDL or towing two trailers you need a CDL. I have seen people towing a fifth wheel and a boat hook up to the rear and I would think that would most likely put them into a CDL category. Perhaps one year Motorhome Magazine or one of the RV Clubs would put an annual RV drivers guide out like the dingy guide that is up to date. Websites rarely display an updated "date" on them so you have to be suspect of the information.

I think it refers to units like these that you can order 5th wheels much longer than 45'. I can't be certain, but I thought I saw one 80' (size of a train car) on one of the forums.

I guess if they can make it a bus, it can be an RV - and you aren't limited to 1 story either!!

Here is a link to Power House Coach, they make up to 54' coaches, if I won the Lotto I'd consider buying.
