So, does anyone have their taxes filed yet?

A job I had for about 10 yrs was updating the tax forms inside one of the major tax software companies. I no longer try to get my taxes done early as I have learned that some states and the feds can and has changed tax forms even into late January. By early February there's very little if any changes being done. So it's late February or early March I do them.

I obtained and printed 1099's on the internet. I don't have reason to do a long form so do the short one. 'll prepare it and it'll go out today unless I owe taxes in which case I'll wait till April.

Do I have my 1099s yet (NO)
Do I have my W-2s yet.. I don't get W-2's just 1099s.

How long will it take me to file when I get my 1099s?

I use short form so about 20 minutes.

We normally don't start filing client's returns until after February 1. The 1099's aren't scheduled to be in the taxpayers' hands until that date and many of the brokerage houses aren't even getting out their 1099's until mid February. We've been stuck doing a lot of amended returns when we filed too early. Even waiting until February 1 is not guarantee that you have everything.

No have not even starting getting the paper work ready. Besides if it all goes as it has in the past several years, we will end up owing, so will wait until the last month to file.

It won't be until late March early April before all the 1099's, k-1's arrive. Everything else is ready.

Still waiting on W-2's, mortgage interest statement, investment statements etc. If I owe money this year, I won't submit my taxes until the last minute just on principle.

I always send my taxes in on April 14th, using the long form, which sometimes has 10+ pages, just so somebody has to handle them. I seldom get a refund. Eddie Elk.

Last year Thom's taxes were:
MI resident long form
CA non-res long form
Fed 1040 long form
oh and the city where the office that he hardly was ever in is located in MI
And don't forget all the schedules and extra stuff to do with working on the road and also having side business stuff.
I think we did them sometime late March last year and had the refund back in 2 weeks, efile is great for that. Oh he owed MI taxes but got stuff back from the rest of them ....

My taxes? No we don't file together as I get VA disability and that's it so I don't file. There's no place to put it and anyway I have been informed that it should never be taxed for the states and if it was I need to inform them so they can correct what state did tax it.

Our Accountant made an error last year and we overpaid by a significant amount. Filed amended returns, the state returned the overpayment in 3 weeks. The IRS took 9 months while all the time hounding me because they had not allocated the estimated 2014 tax payment that I had included with my original tax payment. They won't see a dime out of us until the last minute, and I don't care whether they're monitoring this site or not!!

We always have to pay; therefore we file at 11:59 p.m. on April 15.
