Unhappy Toll Transponders

I will be traveling in the Tools-R-Us states soon and would like to know how I go about getting the transponder and then turning it back in once we leave the Tools-R-Us states. The last time through we got hung up and nickled and dimed to death in Illinois, parts of Michigan, Ohio, New York and the New England states. I would like to be able to just motor on by in the transponder lane and then pay when done. How do I arrange to get one for a couple of months?

EZ Pass is the most widely used transponder in the East. I've used it from Boston to Chicago and down to MD. Each state has their own EZPass website. I have mine thru:

Our State, Florida has "SunPass" and used in many states on the east coast. We transfer the transponder from MH to Car.

OK how do I go about getting one for short term use? In some places you have to carry a bucket of change to drive across a larger city. I know how they work I just want to get one for when we are in overly taxed states.

I know you can get short term in Fl, but I don't know about other states. Check on the Internet, it's a wonderful, thing, just google the state you want to go through.

Why turn it back in? Keep it for your next trip.

Normally a great idea but this could be the last major MH trip for a few years.

Sounds like you want to breeze through with no hangups, not going to happen in Ohio, so just buy the things foe the minimum on the net and spend the money. Isn't it wort it to just cruise through?

So just buy the passes over the Internet on the credit card, spend the minimum you think you need. If you have some left over, who cares, isn't it worth it to just cruise through the tolls?

On a trip last year I bought the I-Pass or E-Z pass at a truck stop just south of Chicago. I used that pass through the New England states up to Maine and down into NY and New Jersey. Set it up with an auto payment when it got low. For us it worked real well. A few years ago on the same trip we paid cash and it seemed like we were always three lanes over from a cash lane. I'd use it again on my next trip. You are paying for convenience.

Typically transponders are a one time fee. I bought mine for $25.00 and i keep $25.00 in my account. Once tolls exceed $25.00 I refund my account with a credit card. You can keep it for a lifetime for the initial $25.00, you will only be billed if you use it on a toll road.
