I'll usually set it up and leave it there while we camp. I mount the scope when I'm ready to observe and take it off when I go to bed. Boondocking in remote areas is where I've had my best skies for obvious reasons.

As some one who is completely comfortable in total darkness, and one only uses light when needed, and at levels only high enough to get the job done. I set-up and take down thousands of dollars worth of delicate equipment either in total darkness, or using only a dim red flashlight, and I almost never use a flashlight when walking around at night - that's what I'M used to doing. I really wish all this lighting didn't exist, or at the very least that people turned them off when they went to bed, but that is not the way of the world. I have to remind myself that while I'm here to enjoy dark skies, others are here to camp and have fun. I don't like all the excess lights, but such is the modern world.
WOW Tom
You leave your set up out like while camping in public places? I'm afraid to leave mine alone unless someone else is there to keep an eye on things. I know it would be a hassle to tear down every morning so I get it, leaving it up and all. I'd still be worried if I went off some place for the day. Fear of losing it to some rat arrss . You have real trust my friend. Then again if the weight gets to be too much they won't want to bother either. Do you have any kind of alarming system on it. Like a few cowbells or some such to let you know while sleeping someone is messing with it?

I'm old school, always concern about battery. Even when we are pluged in. Lol

They are off unless we are outside. Now joyce did get a motion sensitive dusk to dawn porch light that I installed. Its a very bright led light. One thing I need to do if driving after dark is turn it off. I dont think its appreciated by car if it to turn on when they pass me on the right??
