Uber, Lyft, and rental cars
Being long term in an RV park in Vegas without a car has presented a rather serious problem of basic transportation if I need groceries, etc.
What I have figured out is, Lyft is 1/2 or less than the price of Uber for the exact same service.
Lyft cars have not been as pristine as Uber, but who cares?
Had to go about 10 miles yesterday, and the lyft ride was $12.
I had taken Uber previously for the same ride, same time of day.
That was $36.
Tips not included.
Both of those services were perfectly on time and the experience was excellent every time.
Rental cars are well over $100 per day from pretty much all of the usual rental places, and many times they are booked up.
I tried Turo.
At first, I was a little skeptical because the service is described as renting someone's "personal car".
That was not really the case.
I used a guy that owns a fleet of cars, and got a decent sedan for $41 per day.
The first day you pay for trip fees, etc, so it adds up to nearly $100 for the first day, with 200 miles allowed.
After the first day, it's just the $41.
Ins is a flat fee and very cheap. Like $10.
10 days was around $600 total.
It's all done through their app, and is a contactless pickup from a lock box at an office building.
Would have been $1200 through enterprise, etc.
It's a real good idea to take walkaround pictures of the car upon pickup and delivery. You upload them to the app.
It actually requests that you do that.
Good idea.
I have an ebike, but in this heat, that is out of the question.
I am only here until end of month, so if I was to stay any longer, I would get my own car.
But for temp situations, lyft and turo are serious money savers.
Just my $.02

Nice write-up! We've occasionally done the Uber or Lyft thing while camping also. We've found that it's great if we need to go ourselves (dinner, etc.) but way more expensive than if you can have something delivered. So many grocery stores and food places deliver, and they're usually abundant in places where Uber and Lyft are available. Sometimes we find a campground that frowns on delivery services but most seem not to care. We have enough storage to bulk up on things also, which we do to cut down on the need to go shopping at all while camping. These days we almost always have the toad with us, but we've had trips in the past where a toad didn't make sense. These services really fill in the gap when you need them.

Honestly, with temps topping 111* recently, it's great to just have a way to get to a kohls just for the air conditioning alone. haha.
I thought my ebike could fill these gaps, but no way hose a.
Haven't taken it out once.

Where was this write-up last year lol! We stayed at Oasis RV in Vegas last September and Uber everywhere. The prices were consistent with what you posted. Never even thought to try Lyft...
The DW and I celebrated our 10th weddung anniversary year at the Belagio, same place we were married at.

Oasis was awesome. Couldn't get a monthly there so ended up at one on the east side. Not pretty, but fairly cheap.

I had no idea Lyft was cheaper than Uber, thanks for the report. Have rented discount cars before with success, we had one of the first ones in Tucson with "Ugly Duckling Rent-a-Car" founded by Tom Duck, followed by "Rent-a-Wreck".
Question, when we were in Vegas we saw a lot of people driving around on the main streets in those golf cart looking rentals, they had roofs on them, are they still around?

Circus circus?
I stayed there a few years back and it hit 110 degrees. Your basically in a parking lot. Both ACs ripping and couldn’t even get it cool until dinner time. You literally cook out there.

i really don't know. I hide. The strip scene here is not for me. I hate casinos. Just here to visit friends and waiting on closing my house out of state.

Got that right. 126* in the road area in the park. Absolute oven.
Lake mead is 130*.
I was warned to not even think about staying there.
Glad I listened.
Oh, but it's a dry heat.
yeah, so is a BBQ.

We first tried the ride share app "uber" initially in 2018. Now we are hooked. When staying at Oasis LV it was cheaper for 3 of us to Uber with no restrictions than to take the now charging restricted shuttle service at $12pp per day. $8 to Tropicana/MGM area we paid. I'm sure it's a little higher now. Had one Uber driver take us around the houses and ended up with a more than double bill which advised Uber and it was reduced immediately no hassle. Love the ride share programs.
FWIW: We've been RVing since the late 90's and have had a MH since 2003 and never towed, using public transport plus doing a lot of walking and until now, we are two decades older, we are starting to supplement with these other options.
Last time many years ago we rented an Enterprise car in LV to go to Pahrump and outlying areas it cost us just over US$9 per day. Never to be seen again

U-haul rents pickups for 19.95 per day plus 59 cents per mile.
Not bad if you are just looking for some AC to get around in.

Home Depot used to advertise that deal IF you bought lumber.
You couldn't get a stand alone uhaul for 20 bucks if your life depended on it.
If you can, I'd like to know where.
Not in Cal, that's for sure.
20 years ago they cost more than that.
