Yippee, I still got "IT"

Went shopping yesterday at local Wal-Mart to pick up a few groceries..

One of the items was a case of beer..

When I got to the check out counter... the cashier ask for my date of birth...

heheheheheh... now you gotta to think about this for a moment..

She appears to be younger than my daughter and she is looking at a bald headed, stoop shouldered, pot bellied man with enough wrinkles in his skin to make one of those wrinkled Chinese dogs jealous..

and she needs to enter my D.O.B. in the computer before she can sell me the beer..

heh heh heh heh ... I think she wanted to get to know me... ya think ?

Wonder if I went back today and bought another case of beer, she might ask for my phone number..??

John,
Were you in Carson City when this happened? I had a similar experience this summer, in Iowa I believe. I searched the "super Wal-Mart" for their wine/beer racks, and didn't find any. Finally, as I was going to the restroom, I passed one of those "alcoves" across the aisle from the cash registers (same side of the aisle as the restrooms, photo concession, etc.) in which they stored all alcoholic beverages.

I was "carded" for a small 4-pack of wine (you know those little individual servings?). I thought she was kidding at first, then commented, "you just made my day!" Then, when I produced my Calif. DL, she had to call over a supervisor to actually make the sale... she was apparently too young to ring up the sale of alcholic beverages.

Now, at age 67 I certainly do not look like I could pass for under 21, in any state...

heh heh heh.... Iowa must be like South Carolina... Paul,

If you want booze in S.C. you have to go to a "Red Dot" store because grocery stores, mini-markets, etc,,, are not allowed to sell it.

Yes, I was in Carson City at the new store in north Carson.

When I started laughing, the cashier said that all of Wal-Mart's cash registers were now programed not to ring up any alcohol purchase until a birth date was entered into it's computer..
And I guess thats a good thing.....

She did not ask to see my I.D.,, just took my word for it when I told her the date, so I guess common sense told her that I was over 21..

but it was so funny to me because I had not been "Carded" in 45 years... hahahahhaaaa...

John, you would be surprised at the number of items that pop up with a DOB requirement at Wal-Mart, particularly at the self checkouts. And I go through the same drill as you did with about the same age relationship between me that the self-checkout supervisor. The funny thing is that they ask you for the DOB and never ask to see any ID to prove it. Maybe if I looked younger, they might actually ask for that, too....sigh.

I forget which state it was, but I was asked for my DOB for a beer purchase. I made up one that put me at 25 years old (real age +30). The young lady at the counter started to punch it in, then stopped and looked at me. I then said that I've lead a rough life. She chuckled and finished entering the DOB.

John,

I have had the opposite problem. They stopped carding me at age 13. Even got arrested for failure to provide proper ID while I was waiting outside for the Old Lady I was walking home to stop in and visit a sick friend. She was afraid the woman would not be comfortable with a 6 foot tall 215 pound 13 year old sporting a 5 oclock shadow whom she didn't know so I had to wait outside. A policeman came by and demanded my drivers license which I told him I did't have so he demanded my social security card which I also did not have. When I explained that I was only thirteen he declaired that I was being insolent, ucooperative, not in complience with his lawfull request and was placing me under arrest.

I was standing there in a vested business suit waiting by the front gate all clean and neatly pressed except for the fact that it was late in the afternoon and my morning shave was no longer fresh. The 4 foot 6 inch lady came running from the house and asked the officer what he was doing with her little buddy. He choaked a bit as he looked down at her and then up at me, asked her my age which she verified at just past thirteen by a few weeks. He laughed and did let me go because I at least had been polite when I told him the truth and the old dear had vouched for me.

It would be nice to get carded but the most I get is we need your dob for the register while the young lady I married flaunts it every time she gets carded.
