Warning about EuRail passes

We bought a pass for four days two people anywhere in France, Netherlands, and Belgium. You can use it for any four days within a two month period. I paid around $550.00 to use on our six week vacation. What they don’t tell you is with this pass you have to pay a separate reservation fee that is rolled into a regular priced ticket. So it cost us another $250.00 to use the pass which makes it cost more than regular price. Also, if the so called low cost seats have been filled you can’t use that train. Not a huge deal, but don’t limit yourself to certain restrictions and pay more like we did.

Not sure this is RV travel related. But we have used the Eurail pass in the past with no problems. We did find it easier and cheaper to fly intra Europe however.

We looked at using one and like momdoc, it was cheaper to fly. What you miss is the convenience of just walking from the hotel to the train station. Most airports are out in the sticks.

To late for you now, but the EuRail pass is rarely a good financial choice, but it is convenient for those not understanding how to get the cheap tickets and plan routes through Europe.

For young folks in particular, the InterRail passes can be a great way to explore. I got a variation of one when I was in my Early 20's and spent a month touring with a backpack and had the time of my life. Of course at the time I was a young military guy stationed in England, having gone there after an assignment to Germany so I was already familiar with most of that stuff. I guess you could even say this is RV related, as a backpack and sleeping bag along with a good pair of shoes.

If you haven't gone yet, have a great trip. So much to see and explore, especially when it come to historical things.
