What a strange thing?
In the morning hours of today, just after SUN up and with a cup of coffee in one hand I walked out the back door. This was to inspect the grounds for this fourth of July small family event. As I was stating and reflecting on many past 4th of July gatherings. I was thinking of the many families that would not be able to attend with the virus. This was completely all understandable at the age of over 70-years. Then out of nowhere, it happened a Bluejay landed on the rim of my Coffee cup. He or she took a drank and seemed to look up at me and for a moment we were close friends. The bird took off as fast as it had landed.
Then I smiled thinking I am getting old if a bird can land and take a drank of coffee. As a kid, I was always told if a bird flies inside your home someone in the family will die, Now I was thinking, how strange, and if someone had to go I was ready.
But I'm kept in wonder and amazement of the happening, just a strange thing or was it a message from an old friend?

Savor the experience. Just like when we "caught" the end of a rainbow on I-40 near Morganton, NC.

I had a emaciated feral kitten of about 10 weeks with goopy eyes come to me for help. It was being picked on by other cats in the street and when I walked out there the two other feral cats ran away, and the injured feral kitty walked to me and stood next to me. I gave her a bath even though it could have killed her because of the massive amount of flea dirt. She was being sucked dry. When running her fur under the water it looked like she was bleeding heavily because of all the flea dirt changing the water red. I had to use flea shampoo and she was ok. I had to force feed her and un-goop her eyes, but she's better now and even lets me sit next to her. She's still a feral barn cat of sorts but she remembers me helping her and does not run away from me.

Reminds me of once helping out a stray dog, when I was a student. As it darted in and out of cars in a parking lot and had found his way to the corner of a building halfway under some bushes. I could see he was hurt and I knew if I moved in on him as badly hurt as he was he would run. So I just sat with him for a long while missing out on a class. If I let him go it would have been a matter of time and I have always liked dogs and cats. I kept talking and as badly hurt, as he was it took a long while until he lowered his head and I moved a little closer and all the time talking to him. I think he knew I was not there to hurt him and I did not want him to run off as I seem to know he would not make it much longer in his young life. I worked my way in closer and put my shirt on the ground close to him and edged it close to him. He lifted his head a bit and I took my time working the shirt onto his hurt bloody little body. I never stopped talking to him. Got the shirt to cover his head and he let me lowering his head onto the shirt. I was able to touch him and he seems to know I was not going to hurt him. This all took close to an hour or more. Protecting myself I lifted him up wrapping my belt around his nose and around his neck. I had him at long last and he seemed to let me. I got him into my car and took him striate to a vets office. Now understand I was a student and students don't have much money and little did I know vets did not help animals for free. This was also way before chips came along. I had to pay for all of his shots and medical care and a few days stay with the vet. I came to visit each day after laying out all the money I had saved and called home for more money. After three days his price was close to one thousand dollars and the vet did not cut any of his cost. A bag of dog food and the dog were given to a family someone knew from the vet's office knew. But who could not afford to buy a dog, so he was a gift to an unknown stranger? He was no longer bleeding and all patched up. As simple as that I let him go to a stranger to be loved and taken care of and a nice yard to play. I became a Military Dog Handler during Vietnam and over the years found my way to the Southeastern Guide Dogs for the Blind. During a tour of their facility, I was informed that not all dogs workout, and they search for alternative careers for them. I had some canine friends and made some calls. We had a handler come to there facility to run the alternative dogs through a set of skills they searched for in a dog. But today we never refer to a dog as a reject, but maybe in need of an ALTERNATIVE CAREER. Not sure how many of them took on new careers and train to serve mankind. All because of one hurt, bleeding, and lonely dog.

in a helicopter over the big volcano in hawaii, it started to rain, and we saw a 360 degree rainbow.
stray cats seem to gravitate to my wife. we help them all the time. she took one in that gave birth to 8 kittens, it only cost us 800 dollars. to find them good homes. vet bills for 9 cats sometimes get out of hand. anyway, we ended up with momma cat.
strange how that works.
btw, i really love my wife of 56 years ,and you learn to love the animals too

Message from an old friend? Maybe so... but think of it this way - the bird shared your coffee but was not in your 'house'. I think it was telling you to enjoy your coffee, it's not your time yet.
Good luck and safe travels. And cherish these little moments and share them with us. Happy Independence Day!

Solo_RV_Guy,
Thanks, I was not fearful..maybe more surprised than anything. I did think maybe the sugar in the coffee may have drawn him or her close. Understand, Wildbirds I have always seen as departing quickly, live in fear of being eaten by bigger birds, or so I thought. That's kind of why birds have always flown away when I passed by or others.
I search youtube and found this Bird nerd lady, This is one of her many but short videos. SHows her close and feeding wild birds, I wonder how long she has been doing this but it seems to be all types of birds and not just BLUEJAYS if you watch her channel. Also understand I was a dog handler so I was trained to read a dog. Funny how much they talk to you without words.
I was posting this story not because I was in search of my fortune being played out before this forum, NO I felt taken back a bit, on this strange event. I over 70-plus lol and kind of thinking maybe I looked like a statue standing there to the bird. Then maybe the bird just wanted to know what was in the cup. [_]>''''
