What do you tell a dealer that want large cash up front to place a factory order?

Looking at ordering a new class a, and the sales guy says "well you know.. the owner is going to make you put $40,000 down to order a coach that's not like we would normally order one..."

hmmm

Heard. I immediately thought this was just a ply to sway me back to something on their lot. This isn't the first time this salesguy has said things that are weird.

For instance, EVERY coach, no matter which one it is "is the hottest selling coach in america" and" it's on fire" and "it won't be here long" and "you can't find a nicer one"

My gut feeling would be to get in my car and drive away. If he is blowing smoke now, the smoke will only get thicker after the sale

no lie there.

I don't take a lot of what an rv sales guy says very seriously. It seems they say a lot of really funny things

If you want the RV, put the cash down and order it. If not, go somewhere else. I would not expect a dealer to do a custom order without doing so.

I put a 5K deposit down on my coach when I oerdered it from the factory, through a dealer. It seems fair to me at the time.

Howdy!

We we put $5,000.00 down using credit card when we ordered ours. That way I can aways disput it if problem arise on delivery. I would never consider that much and would find another dealer.

Yup, put up or shut up.

Years ago, the MSRP on our coach was $278,000 and I put down $25K. I don't think putting a 25% deposit is unreasonable especially if you are ordering something special that the dealer could get stuck with if you back out of the deal.

Let's clarify my question. I have no issue paying 40k, 50k 100k into the deal and financing the rest. Matter of fact, I prefer the lower payment after paying half cash.

The question is "do you give that money to the dealer at order, or at pickup at the factory when you actually take delivery"

First, lets talk to the owner/CEO. Then, open an escrow account. All funds to be returned if the MH is not delivered as ordered by a specific date. This holds you both accountable.
