Yeah, I've always had trouble calling those "inter" states, lol... and there are shorter ones, such as 93 and 89 in the northeast. But, for such open territory, it's amazing that 30 didn't cover more real estate.

"Interstate" is a term that's used pretty fast & loose. Take a look at I-27 that basically starts at I-40 in Amarillo, TX and runs south to Lubbock, TX where it just poops out. Not only does it not run between 2 or more states, it doesn't even connect with another Interstate at its southern terminus or anywhere along its corridor but is more like a spur - it isn't "Inter" anything!

Perhaps the original thought was to run I-27 farther south to meet I-20 at Midland or Odessa, but it never happened.

You know what-
I wonder if "Interstate Highway" has come to mean only that somebody got the Feds to pay for it...
Could be the biggest mess o' Pork Projects in the whole history of The Pig!

What's nice is that it's spread out over the whole country, though-
nobody can complain that they didn't get their share at the BBQ

Look around the interstates for Military Installations and keep in mind that they were also designed to be used as runways for aircraft of the day. This could maybe explain some of the short ones or non connections.

I have driven US 50 from Sacramento, CA to Lake Tahoe many many times and a couple times from the junction with 1-15 in Utah to Sacaramento, CA.

And then there's always Interstates H-1, H-2, and H-3 in Hawaii.

Ain't that a hoot?

I wonder what the folks in "No-Interstate- Highways" Alaska think about that!
