Thank you for posting this question I may also be one of the younger guys on here at 48. I love hearing the experiences and guidance from those who have been at this for much longer. We did the progression from tent to tag along when the kids where young and our son raced BMX we traveled a lot. Our kids are out of the house and we got away from camping for a few years. But that all changed this year we live in PA and went to visit my Aunt and Uncle in Fla. in January they are the ones who got us into camping a number of years ago we would often meet up on the road traveling together when we could. On our visit with them we found that my Uncles was having health issues and their 2012 Tiffin had not left the driveway in 2 years. It made me realize that nothing is guaranteed in life so you should live for the day, that’s not to say go buy a $200k rig and quite your job. You need to make smart purchases. I now have a 2012 RV that I bought for a good price that if I had to I could sell tomorrow and turn a profit. I have always purchased used cars 2-3 years old with no regrets. I have been fortunate enough to purchase cheap realestate to renovate “I am a general contractor” so I have been able to Reno and sell a few while holding on to ones that I feel have best potential for long term rental income. I don’t know how much my opinion counts as I’m still in my 40s but my game plan has been to buy when the deal is right knowing that whatever I buy can be sold for a profit if needed. Build a realestate portfolio that will support my lifestyle when I’m ready to retire. But most of all live life while I can as nothing is guaranteed.
Another GC, welcome! I actually was just looking into starting the process of setting up financing to get my first investment property. I think owning any assets that will generate cashflow in retirement is huge. I am learning more and more about this concept in the last couple of weeks.
