I was on my way to Hill AFB Utah for Reserve duty. There was an unusually long line to get in the gate that morning. After showing ID (in Uniform) I pulled up to the building I worked at and one of my friends said come in quick you have to see this. In our conference room the news was showing the first tower burning when they caught the second plane coming in. It seemed like slow motion as I watched a live broadcast of the second plane hitting the other tower. I couldn't believe it. I stood there for another hour transfixed to the TV. I walked outside and asked one of the folks for a smoke, I had quit for over a year. As I stood there puffing on the cig, I turned and punched a wall. Lucky for me I don't punch hard, just skinned knuckles. It was then I turned and said I need to do something, I want to go after them. Well, my words were heard, in less then 8 days I was the first Reserve activated out of Hill AFB. I reported into Dover AFB DE. for two years on active duty. I had the honor to act as Air Clearance Authority for shipments coming in to the Port destined for overseas. I loved the job and regardless of Branch of Service I always helped make their stuff and folks move through the port as easy as I could. Many a day I worked 12+ hours to make sure everything went smoothly. It was an honor to work beside the civilians and young Airmen at Dover AFB Sep 2001-Sep 2003, never have I seen such professionalism and dedication as they went about their endless tasks. Even when we lost the two roofs on the Buildng during a freakish snow storm, they didn't quit, we had our first fully loaded C-5 out within 24 hours. Without a doubt, those two years were the best of any job, civilian or Military that I had and the folks I worked with and beside are the best of the best I have ever had the pleasure to work with.
BTW, that's where I picked up the Sgtjoe, one of the ladies I teleconferanced with each day couldn't pronounce my last name, so I became Sgtjoe for her. Senior to the rest.

777 Stu,
Those words from your heart are a wonderful memorial to your co-workers, Capt. Stu.
When someone of your standing speaks reverently of the personal losses of that day, it makes it real ...it keeps it real ...and it helps us to, "Never forget."
Thank you, sir,
Jim

I was on a business trip in Billings, Montana. Since there were no airline flights, I drove my rental car all the way back to Chicago, the whole trip listening to the radio reports. Once I eventually saw the footage on TV of the planes hitting the buildings, it all became horribly real to me.

God Bless America

I was at work when my wife called and said you need to get a TV on. It was a shocking site and I really cannot explain how I felt as the story developed and I watched the WTC collapse. Words cannot express the felling of sorrow and rage.

I hope the world never forgets September 11 in our history. That single day and the actions of one group of fanatics have changed the world forever.

I was at the 1st iRV2.com National Rally (09/02/01 to 09/07/01) here in Myrtle Beach at the Ocean Lakes Campground on 09/11/01 with some very good friends. I called the fire department back home and asked if they needed me to come back and they told me to stay where I was and that that I should take the leave (vacation) that I was entitled to. We departed MYR on 09/22/10 and we looped around NYC on the I287 to the Tappan Zee Bridge.

"Never Forget!"

I had just come to work when the first plane hit. The weird thing is that I did not think it was an accident, although the couple of people who come into work early did (I am PST time).

When the second plane hit, most of the company was in (starts 7 am PST).

My boss went around the office/plant and told everyone to turn off their radio's. You will love this, he said "if you do not have family or friends in NYC or NJ that IT WAS NOT YOUR BUSINESS AND DOES NOT EFFECT YOU". Can you believe this?

He then told people, if they could not keep their minds on business, to go home but if you stayed, you were to work.

When he came to tell me to shut off my radio, I told him no. I was using ear jacks and wasn't disturbing anyone and it did effect me as our Country was under attack. He said I had no way of knowing that and I looked at him like he had just grown two heads. I could not believe he was saying that. I told him that it is impossible for two airliners to hit both Towers unless it was an attack and I wasn't turning off my radio. He left me alone after that but made another round telling people to turn off their radios or go home.

After the plane hit the Pentagon, HR asked if they could set up a TV in the lunch room. He finally said yes but said that people were only allowed to watch on their breaks or lunch time.

When the company president called (who lived on the East coast) to see how we were doing, my boss told him how upset we were and that he had arranged for a TV to be in the cafeteria and that he allowed the most upset employees to go home and be with their families and that he was doing everything he could to support us.

I have never forgotten this or the person who made it so much worse for us to deal with our shock and grief.

I was on my way to work. I thought how in h**l could a plane run into the WTC unless there was a major mechanical failure. Was in absolute disbelief when the second one hit. We kept wandering up to the boss' office to see the coverage.

Just returned from Canada and was in campground in UP of Michigan and around noon someone asked if I heard the news about New York. I looked up at bridge coming and going from canada and they were backed up for miles.

I was at work. I worked in Robbery and one of my Sergeants came into my office and told me a plane just hit the World Trade Center. I watched the coverage until the second plane hit and we all knew it was War. Even here in Florida we felt vulnerable. While others went about their business and command staff called meetings to decide if we need to do something, a knot grew in my stomach when I realized my daughter worked in New York and her office was just two blocks away from the WTC. I remembered her telling me that her subway stop was just under the WTC. I called her cell but it never rang. I didn't expect it to. I know how unreliable they are in any kind of emergency. I called her boy friend but could not get through to him either. The minutes turned into hours and finally I just couldn't take it anymore and went home. My wife and youngest daughter were crying because they could not make contact either. My daugher's appartment was in the Village so we could not tell if that was effected as well. Finally, her boyfriend called and told us he found her walking in the streets. She had been stuck in the subway when the first plane hit and no one knew what was going on. They finally walked on the tracks to the nearest station and she got to ground level when the second plane hit. She ran north with everyone else. Later she told me that she saw the first tower come down and she cried on the phone when she described how she saw all the police and firefighters die. She said they set up a command post on the plaza between the two buildings and it collapsed on them. She also saw people jump to their deaths and heard the noise as they collided with the pavement. It took my daughter and her boyfriend several hours to walk to to his apartment on the upper west side. The next day his family came and drove them both to New Jersey. A week later he proposed marriage. They were married the following April on Miami Beach and I now have two of the most beautiful grand kids imaginable. It turns out there was a local baby boom in the few years following 9-11. They no longer talk of those days. My daughter and my son inlaw saw things that day that have left scars. While they both still work in the city they have their home in New Jersey.

I was at home watching the morning news, I saw the 2nd plane hit and knew it was not a preview to a new movie. It was so horrible, knowing what they must be feeling. So helpless, and then I heard about the plane that hit the Pentagon, my daughter worked at the women's hospital downtown DC . When I was able to get in touch with her she told me she thought the plane was flying a little too low for just taking off from the airport. She was used to hearing the planes as the hospital was close. And then reality that it had hit the Pentagon. My son in law was active duty and stationed at Walter Reed, he had one the tough jobs as did many others. They went into the Pentagon, removed bodies, got them ready for identification. Each day when he went home the dispair was so hard on him, he felt for the families that had lost a loved one. He gained his strength daily from God in order to do his duty and help the families get their loved ones home for burial. Some will always remember and some will let it pass as just another tragedy. May we always remember what happened and how everyone came together to help each other so that we will always be ready for what comes our way and handle it together.
May God Bless America, our soldiers, our public servants and all whom have given so much of themselves to keep us free.
