I tried an experiment a couple days ago. In my Honda CRV going down Interstate 64 here in Kentucky I waved at every RV either Travel Trailer or Motorhome that were going in the other direction for a few miles. I put my granddaughter to work keeping statistics, and checking to see who waved.
My % of wave backs was:

Drivers of TT 3 out of 5 = 60%
Drivers of MH 6 out of 9 = 67% Plus one horn toot!
Drivers of Cars 22 out of 100 = 22%

Not surprisingly, when she waved to the other drivers she got much better % of wave backs than I did!! But then she was sooooo much more enthusiastic at waving than me I told her she was cheating. BTW if you were one of the ones that did not wave back to me, you got loudly booed by a preteen and got a frowny face next to your number!

I agree, about the 4 lane divided thing, you can't usually see the other driver,,, but on 2 lane, or in rv parks, I always wave... Just me.... If I'm sitting outside in a rv park, or walking my dog, I will always say hello if you look,,, If you want to talk, I'll talk your ear off,,,, within reason....

A friendly gesture don't take much effort, (that's just me).

I am a waver. Back roads in my truck, I give the raised index finger. In the MH it's the full on wave. Heck , I even give a Blast on the Air Horns and a wave to passing trains 👋

Sometimes. Someimes I register "Vehicle passing" sometimes I register what type of vehicle then I will wave

However two things to consider.... Some RVers are new to the driver's seat and "White Knuckling" it as it were.....

Others have yet to install Trac Bars on their RIG and are thus White Knuckling it.

Or the sway bars are a tad anemic, or .. Well, they need to upgrade suspension.. Dealers tend not to mention this when they sell you a new ride.

On interstates and divided 4 lanes, I usually don't, but on 2 lanes, I wave most the time. Hubby has a Miata... He does the pop up lights to other miata drivers... I'm never quick enough...but then, it's not my toy although sometimes I have to drive it when my vehicle is in the shop. Saw a dude out todfay on his bicycle... he had a santra hat, and on the back was a little garland christmas tree... that warranted a big thumbs up when I went around him! Small towns... Love them!

I'm a "waver". I got started waving after reading a post on a forum somewhere. My wife thinks I'm nutz for waving and has a comment every time I do. Of course, this only encourages me ... so when I see another RV within eyeshot - I instantly become a waving fool (think Horseshack from Welcome Back Kotter) - unless I'm completely preoccupied with driving related tasks (safety first right?)

So, I wave ... my DW rolls her eyes and comments about how dumb it is. Every now and then the other driver waves back - and I get to look at my DW and say "See!? ... it's an "RV thing" - you just don't GET it!" We both laugh - and are happy to have found something entertaining for that 15 seconds of the trip. On two lane roads - I often increase my "wave" audience to include semi trucks (if there's no too many of 'em!).

I'm also inclined to throw my arms and hands up as though I'm trying to protect my face whenever somebody crosses my path as they're turning. This too annoys the heck out of my DW. If I can't find something on the road that she can "correct" me about - I simply fluff out my eyebrows and get her going with that.

Life is great when you're a "work in process!" :-)

Thank you for my chuckle today at lunch. I also wave to other MH's, I suppose it comes from my motorcycle days (which aren't over) and also the truck thing. 20 to 30 years ago every trucker waved to the others, not so much any more. Same with motorcycles, where have those days gone? I get at little flack from my wife also, but we make a joke out of it and say they have that death grip on the wheel and their fingers are cramping up, so cant wave. Keep up the positive thoughts, and have a Happy New Year in 2017! Wow 2017 already???

The Delaware Jeep Association had a game involving the Jeep Wave if you were caught not waving at another members Jeep the Jeep Monkey was put on all your post and you were the Monkey till someone else got caught. It was a lot of fun.

Did the experiment from the east bay of San Francisco to south of Santa Cruz today. When on two lane roads, I got a wave back from half the Motorhomes that passed by me in the other direction.

Yep! Agreed. Anything to annoy the DW makes for a good day.

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. Have even got waves from some truck drivers or the flip lights thing when I pass, indicating I can get back in. Maybe seeing an old woman pulling a toad they think I need all the help I can get.

I had a trucker one time decide, with my little 29 footer I had then, a gas one, that he had to help me back in a spot, I just let him help me, what the heck. We had stopped at a casino for the night and they said there was truck parking in the back, so back DD and I went. I had just had a flat and had Coach Net change it, so to late to go on, I don't drive after dark if I can help it. Had the nicest cop help us get across the road in heavy traffic also and he stayed until we got it fixed, he called the next day to make sure we made it on the road again. I have been fortunate with all the nice folks I have met.
