YAHOO!!

As most of you folks know I had major surgery to fuse my left ankle/foot joints.

That surgery took place on Dec 2, 2019

3 days later I was diagnoised with a Bladder Injection that just would NOT clear up.......regardless of the antibiotic that was prescribed.
Then things turned ugly.........colon had made a fistula (tunnel) to bladder and was passing feces/gas into bladder
(No wonder it wouldn't clear up/go away)

So Jan 12th had surgery to separte colon/bladder. Repair hole in bladder and remove over a FOOT of colon.
Then late Jan 21/early 22 had to have emergency follow up surgery to do more 'repairs'
Ileostomy (small intentines) and drain pump/bag installed.

25 days in hospital!!!
NO ONE GETS ANY REST in those hospital beds

Finally got well enough surgeon agreed that I would do better at HOME!!

Just coming home was a major improvement in feeling better and mind-set

One good thing was all that time I had NOT been attempted to stand/put any weight on left foot (just like Doc ordered)
Well it paid off.............week ago had followup with Orthopedic Surgeon.
New X-rays showed all joints FULLY FUSED & 'spike' was fully anchored.
Doc released me to start walking on it with Cam-Boot ----PT starts this Friday

That is one majpr hurtle overcome.....prognosis looking GOOD

Had followup with Abdominal Surgeon this AM.........drain/drain bag REMOVED which is a REAL Blessing
Reversal surgery planned for May (to remove ileostomy/reconnect small to large intetines)

So it looks like 2020 is going to be a good year after all.

THANKS to all well wishers....comments/PMs much appreciated.

Awesome! Nice to learn you’re back to normal

You should celebrate with a Krispy Kreme.

Most of the hospital stay I was in a fog..........not quite right
Saw 'grey people' and didn't understand why they were there

Just kept remembering something my MOM would say when things were going wrong
“God will give you all the grace you need in every situation you face.”

One added benefit from this whole situation......weight loss
A year and half ago I weighed 385#!!!!
Deb and I went on a Low Carb diet and within 8 months I had lost 85# (300#)

Then issues with left ankle/foot compounded activities and I gained 25# (325#)
I stayed at that weight and when I went in to hospital for surgery I weighed 326#

Got weighed today..........YAHOO-----282# a weight I used to be at for many years
I am now going to work at staying at or even losing more.

Great results BUT NOT A WEIGHT LOSS PROGRAM I WOULD RECOMMEND!!!

I'm glad to hear you're doing well. I hope the rest of the recovery process is quick and easy. Will we be seeing a bit more of you here on IRV2 in the near future? I'm not looking forward to you beating me to all the good advice again, but I'll happily deal with it if it means you're in good health.
