1976 Dodge Sportsman Brougham inline fuel pump

Hello everyone, I recently bought a 1976 Dodge Sportsman Brougham. It has a 360 and A727 transmission. There is an inline fuel pump that is turned on by a switch to the lower left of the steering wheel. Is this standard equipment? Or was it added? It doesn't seem to change anything when driving down the road so I'm a little confused at the purpose. Any info is greatly appreciated, we're planning a complete makeover.

Not standard equipment. Probably added to solve a fuel delivery issue, most likely vapor lock. Normally not needed if all factory fuel components and vapor canister are installed and working. Check and see what 360 you have as they made different versions. Look on the drivers side front of the block just below the cylinder head. A number is stamped there such as 360-3. It's also on the side of the block. The -3 takes different plugs and has a little different valve train.

It's a 360-3. Is there a fuel system diagram that I can reference? The RV seems a little gutless, but that could be how it is.

360 gutless

i have had a few of these old Dodge powered mini homes. the exhaust is very restrictive on these. the last one i put a open air cleaner on and headers and duals on was a world of difference in power and mileage.

Thanks for the info. I currently have a cracked manifold so I need to replace that anyways. What headers do you recommend for this 360? Also I believe it's just a Holly 2 barrel (I've only had it a week and haven't dug that far yet), would you recommend putting a 4 barrel on it with the intake and headers?

360s of that era typically had a Carter Thermoquad 4 bbl. They have a plastic center body and a bad habit of warping and leaking badly. The Carter AFB or Edelbrock clone are an easy swap over.
