1984 Chevy Van G30 Honey Mini Motorhome

Hi all I have a 1984 Chevy Van G30 "Honey" 22ft mini motorhome. She is a classic but in great shape. We put her in storage last winter with everything working and upon going to get her this spring the brake lights are no longer working. I don't know what to check for this , or where to attempt to take it to get it fixed. Any suggestions on self fix or where to get it fixed? Thank you

The brake light system in your RV has a dedicated fuse , and that's the first thing to check .
Next is the brake light switch .
Does this RV use the same bulb for both signal lights and brake lights ?

Do you have a multimeter and a 12 volt test light ?

They're two essential tools when you own an RV .

Check the brake light switch which is located under the dash and will be making contact with the breke pedal arm. It should have 2 wires on it . If you jumper the 2 wires together yor brake lights shoud come on. If not the problem could be your turn signal switch. Make sure you have power on both sides of the fuse with the brake pedal pressed. Also check to see of your 4 way flashers work.

So it's not the brake light switch. Replaced that and still no break lights. Any clue what to check next?!

From the brake light switch , power goes through the turn signal switch ( where power to the rear bulbs can either be signal light power or brake light power ).

Make sure the emergency flasher ( 4 way ) knob on the signal switch is fully in the off position .

At the base of the steering column the turn signal switch multiple connector can be tested for input and output.
I'll try and find wiring colors , but here is a common wiring layout.

1. power from brake light switch . battery circuit , ignition off.
2. power from 4 way flasher , battery circuit.
3. power from signal light flasher , ignition must be on to test .
4. ground for horn relay .
outputs.
1. Left front signal light and dash indicator
2. Right front signal light and dash indicator
3. Left rear , signal and brake light
4. Right rear , signal and bake light.

This testing is best done with a 12 volt test light .

So at the multiple connector , with the brake pedal held down; ignition off , three of the wires at the connector should show constant power ; power from the brake light switch and output to the rear brake lights . If you only have one wire with power then the signal switch is defective.

The power wire from the 4 way flasher will flash the test light bulb.
