1985 Alumilite Dead

I have a 1985 Holliday Rambler Aluminite with an electrical problem which I can't seem to figure out. Every thing worked perfectly until last week. I went to start it and NOTHING. When I turned the key I heard a click and everything went dead. No power any where. I replaced the battery and still nothing. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Can you give us more details? Is this a class C or A? Does it have a gas 460 or 454 engine? It could be one of many problems. Starter solenoid, starter, ignition switch, corroded connections, bad ground wire, etc.

Alumilite

Hey Terry, thanks for the reply. It is a class A 36'. with a 454. What is confusing is that everything is dead including all power to the coach. I am at a total loss.
A friend of mine said to check the 2 solenoids located in the engine compartment .I checked them both, one was fused and looked ok the other had no fuse so I don't know.

Thanks for your help so far

Sounds like you have a bad ground. Disconnect the ground cable where it connects to the coach and shine that up. Then make sure the ground connection to the battery is good and shiny. A bad ground has got me more times than something major.

Sounds to me like it's time to drag out/figure out how to use a test light and/or a voltmeter. There's nothing "universal" about these older coaches, not to the point of providing much help in a response to a problem like this anyway.

Start at the battery by confirming it has power, than follow the power to see where it stops - that will very nearly always be where your problem is. Greatly simplified I know, but there's not much more that can be offered without some basic troubleshooting.

While I am not familiar with a Holliday Rambler Aluminite, your statement "one was fused and looked ok" implies you have a battery disconnect solenoid controlled by a switch inside the rig. The contacts in these have a bad habit of breaking down and will not close. To test, you can take a the red leads of a set of battery jumper cables and jumper across the 2 large terminals on the fused disconnect solenoid to see if power is restored.

Battery disconnect solenoid typically looks like this:
