1987 Holiday Rambler ignitions switch

When I purchased my used RV 5 years ago someone had run a remote wire to the solenoid switch on the front firewall, bypassing the ignitions switch. The remote wire has a toggle switch to it to make the ignition hot when flipped on. Then I use the key in the ignition to crank the engine over.
This toggle switch gets hot after some time running so I figure that is not good.
I looked around today and find it difficult to follow the red wire from the ignition switch to it's terminal place due to being inside of a harness. Of course I am trying to figure out why someone did this in the first place.
Then I would like to get the wire from the ignition switch working again.
Wondering if I should splice a 10 g wire into the red wire at the ignition switch and run it to the solenoid switch? The present toggle switch has its wire run to this solenoid switch.
Thanks, as you can tell, I have some electrical things going on!

Short term would be to remove the two wires from the toggle switch that are heating it up and route them through an automotive relay powered and operated by the toggle. Under a buck at any junk yard.

While at the junk yard, look for a replacement dash key switch. Pretty common. As I drive around the country I often pass by large junk yards with 10's of RVs just sitting there rusting away. You might check your neighborhood to see if you can find a switch from an old RV or truck. MOST RVs are gas and many would have the kind of start switch you're looking for. Diesels often end up at RV salvage yards instead of junk yards and I'm not sure they'd have your style switch.
