1999 Bounder f53 chassis - won’t engage into drive

Just when I thought our problems were solved… we got in to drive , put it into gear, give the pedal a toe, and we go nowhere… the rpm’s still increase, and the unit will go reverse, but not in forward. We checked the grounding wires in the power distribution box, and don’t see anything out of the ordinary.. any guess on where to look? We’ also checked the shift cable at the steering column.

Before I got too excited I would check to see if it moved in Low or 2nd. Then absolutely check the transmission fluid level. Running in Park without being fully warmed up the fluid should be low on the hash marks on the dipstick. If yours had the plastic tip on the dipstick like I think it does it's hard to get a trustworthy reading. And if you add fluid it's even worse, the stick keeps wiping fluid off the side of the tube and making you think you have more fluid than you do.
You're not supposed to check the fluid with the engine not running but if you did it would appear then to be way overfull even if in reality it was quite low.

It could be other things but essentially low fluid in an automatic equals no go.
With questions specific to the Ford chassis and drivetrain sometimes you will get more help in the Ford chassis section than this one.
