2000 Allegro WB charging issues

Took my 2000 Allegro on a shakedown run this weekend, on shore power or generator discovered that the house batteries were not charging and that the AC also would not run once the house batteries ran down. Chassis battery system working fine, suggestions where to start.

1st off - If your coach still has one of the old linear MagnaTek or WFCO or similar coach battery charging systems in it - you need to upgrade it to one of the newer “drop-in” replacement microcontroller units. Those old linear convertor’s will cook your coach batteries.

Should we assume you have an inverter to run the AC units from your coach batteries?

Should we assume your coach batteries were fully charged via shore power when you left the barn, and you did not run your genset on your test drive? If you did not run your genset then if you started it up, would it have then charged your batteries AND run your AC units?

And while I don’t think it is the problem - what position is your “Use/Store” switch set to?

The air conditioning is probably controlled by 12v from the house batteries so I wouldn't worry about that until the charging is fixed.

Have you checked for tripped circuit breakers, input power to whatever charges your batteries? What does charge them?

I would imagine that a 2000 tiffin would have an inverter. If it isn’t charging from shore power or generator depending on what type inverter you have you may have a reset on the unit it’s self or could possibly be that is is bad. I just replaced the inverter on my 1998 Dutch Star cost is 1k and up.
