just purchashed nice 79 Dodge C class.. has 2 New frt bias tires..and 4 worn out radials on back
i just bought 6 very good 16 in dually rims..

what size 16 is same height and width i called all 8 tire shops in town and None could tell me,????? strange.. im thinking a LT 215-75-16 ???

what did any you old C Class owners do. please email me if you know

Be careful what lug nuts you use ; some early Dodge lug nuts had a weird bevel angle and didn't match newer rims .

Bias and radial mixed on same chassis

What height measured on existing tires and load rating on door sticker ?

28.45 diameter ,have no intentions of mixing bias and radial..im 69 yr old retired licenced mechanic with early dementia..still have a few marbles left.. no according to wife though,

there 0 info on those old 8.00 x 16.5 tires lots of 8.75x 16.5 but this is on it and like to stick to it..

You can just get a set of PowerKing 8.75 x 16.5's and call it a day, that's what I did. I think Firestone still makes Transforce in that size as well. Despite the slight extra width I've not had any problems on rubbing between the duals.

I like the old standard 235/85R16's. They work on everything and are always easy to find.

I have 235/85-16 Sailuns as my steer tires and Toyo Terramax on the dual. (Have to use what you can get sometimes.) Anyway, both brands have an outside diameter of 30.5" installed and inflated.
If it were me I would absolutely run them and not worry about the slight size difference. But at some point I expect I might check the accuracy of the speedometer versus a GPS speed reading. Just to see. I once changed out the OEM 14" wheels and stock tires on a Mustang for 16" wheels with low profile tires and the speedometer got MORE accurate.

I have 70 IH Travel-all ,IH version of a Chevy Suburban ... yeah stupid 16.5s they went to and later pretty much abandoned 16.5 again.

andy..that comparison chart wont let me enter that old tire size, and thats what the new young tire shops go by..

My chart says the 8.00 x 16.5" tires are 28.3" to 28.6" diameter depending on the brand.
A 225/70-16 will get you very close. Watch the load rating.

I've now gotten curious as to why you seem to be very fixated on precise tire diameter. You've got a ton of room for variation. It's not like it's a very modern vehicle where you can reprogram the engine computer when you change to radically different sized wheels/tires.

i might have it sold to the local Kal Tire manager,,so he can worry about it.wife has had enough of these old things,,looking for newer rig now.,,thanks for all advice.
