88' Itasca Fan Noise Reduction
I had the radiator recored for our motorhome so while it was at the shop I investigated a way to reduce the noise from the engine fan when the clutch is engaged.
I found the section in front of the "doghouse" was not insulated except for the carpet pad on the inside of the cab. There was also some overlapping metal that was not sealed well so I caulked it.
I went to HD and bought a roll of that silver insulation that is about 1/2" thick and a roll of the silver tape. I removed any wire harness clamps or solenoids, etc and cut and taped 2 layers of this insulation on the metal after degreasing it. I then reinstalled the wiring clamps, solenoids, etc.
Where the was a large area with no screws from the clamps, etc, holding the insulation I installed self-tapping screws with fender washers (after seeing what was on the other side).
I can say the noise from the fan is greatly reduced and a conversation can be heard over the fan now. So far the insulation is intact, but time will tell.
