Atwood gh6-6e

My Atwood gh6-6e hot water heater starts up fine when I hit the switch, the water heats up then when it reaches temperature the burner turns off, I hear the ignitor spark for about 2 seconds then it stops and I get the pilot out light on the control panel- If I turn the switch off and on again it lights. I have cleaned out the burner tube and checked the air gap, cleaned the orifice and the thermostats are 2 years old

When mine did that, dirt dobbers had built a nest inside the tube that goes to the exhaust vent up past the burner tube. Be sure and sandpaper the flame rod that senses the pilot flame too

My interpretation of your post, worth exactly what you're paying for it.

Igniter works.

Burner works--gas valve fully opening.

Burner able to fully heat water--igniter flame sensing to control board works.

Burner shuts down--thermostat/ECO works.

Burner can be re-lit--thermostat/ECO good.

Burner lights and water fully heats before shut-down tells me the burner is clear and nothing is obstructing the flue or flame.

Failure to relight automatically, but you can successfully relight the burner by turning OFF the switch and then turning it back ON. This tells me there is a problem with the control board or connections to the control board.

Clean all connections between igniter and control board, and all connection between thermostat and control board. If that doesn't help, I strongly suspect the board.

Now, all the above is based on the assumption that the heater fully heats, shuts down, but does not relight as the water cools. That was not made clear in your post. If the burner is shutting down short of reaching maximum water temp, you could have another issue such as bad igniter or igniter connection.

It won't restart even if it cools down- I was thinking that it was the control board- I may just let it run like this as it solves the problem where it comes on in the middle of the night and wakes me up as it is right beside the bed
