Bad inverter UPDATE

Well hello.
Help.
S.O.S.
This is an update to my last post.
I charged the battery. It was dead.
But the inverter still humms and clicks. Nut the Lights don't go dim anymore. Unplugged shore
Power and I got nothing. No lights no information
Pannel no water pump no furnace.
Any idea? I'm gonna replace the ring terminals
Tomorrow. Then just replace every fuse I can
find. Other than that I'm stumped.

You sure you've got an inverter, or is it a converter?

I'm starting to think its a CONVERTER. not
an inverter. On another forum a fellow points
out that inverters were not really available.

See if you can find a brand name and model number....Look around the battery area for a resettable fuse, could be under the tongue or under the front of the house.....you're working with two different power supplies here...so one at a time..

Check the ground connection, not just at the battery but where the battery cable connects to the frame/ ground bus. My 1978 twilight bungalow had a similar issue and when I used a new ( cleaned up) self tapping screw to the frame for this connection it was tons better.

Many Converters have 2 fuses in them called reverse polarity fuses. Check them.

If the problem isn't a bad fuse, you may have a bad converter-charger. When you are plugged in to shore power, the converter-charger, converts the ac shore power into dc (battery type) power to run your interior lights and water pump. In addition, the charger part of the converter charges the batteries when you are on shore power.

It's fairly easy to replace a bad converter-charger. Unscrew the panel for the converter and find the make and model number. Post that info and I can point you toward a replacement.

Also, if it's the original (OEM) converter, you should update it anyway as the older converter-chargers don't charge effectively resulting in a shorter battery life. A modern converter uses a 4 stage charging process that is the best charging method to prolong battery life.

Just to give you an idea of the cost of a new converter, mine cost about $184.

A CONverter makes 12 volts DC from 120 volts AC. An INverter makes 120 volts AC from 12 volts DC.

We can be a better help if you find the unit, take a photo and post it. In my 1985 motor home there is no inverter (yet), just a combination converter/battery charger, and it's built into the circuit breaker/fuse panel. The charger section is bad and ruined the house batteries (before I bought the MH), the previous owner opened it up and cut the wire to the charger.

My long term plan is to disassemble the panel, remove the converter/charger unit, and add a new unit outboard to the breaker/fuse panel.
