Battery Isolator Location

On a 1999 Four Winds Chateau with an auxilary start switch where is the battery isolator located? I would like to disconnect the alternator charging of the house battery bank since I'm upgrading to lithium batteries and would prefer not to install a DC to DC switch at this time.

On mine, I located it by pushing the switch which causes a click in the solenoid when it engages. Someone could help you and push the switch as you listen under the hood or in the battery bay.

Thanks. Do you know which wire from the ignition energizes the solenoid for charging? I'd prefer not disconnecting the main battery cable.

Thanks for the suggestion. It took me a bit to figure out how to upload the pic.

It seems to be a simple solenoid that must be energized by both the auxiliary start switch and possibly the alternator or ignition switch. I assume the house batteries are then charged through the battery cable once the solenoid stays energized by the alternator or ignition switch. I would like to just disconnect the charging function while maintaining the auxiliary start function. Not sure if that's possible.

The (2) large gauge wires are for batteries (coach & house). Your 12volt wire will be one of the smaller gauge wires. Do you hear/feel it engage when working the aux. boost switch? You should. I'd go ahead at min and clean each of those wire connections up then coat them with some Super-lube dielectric grease.


Disconnect the the battery ends first before cleaning up.

Yes it does energize with both the switch and ignition. I would replace it except that switch is no longer available. Would you know of a direct replacement?
