Best oil for 55K mile, 1992 E350, 460 cid engine??

With the plethora of super duper improved oil types, lubrication mixes and oil additives available in 2025...

What is best choice oil for a 1992 Ford 460 cid engine with just 55K miles.

I've owned a few 460's. This one is by far and away the smoothest runner ever. At idle it can hardly be heard and when you place your hand on the hood there is "0" vibration.

Thinking that 50/50 blended mix of synthetic and fossil might be best. Or, maybe just synthetic... with additives??

Your suggestions appreciated!

Thanks!! Art

Just a thought

What does your owners manual recommend? Perhaps a trip or call to your local auto parts store. DH buys oil at Walmart for a fair price.

10W-30 dino oil. Change it every 5,000 miles. Check the level often.

Go with full synthetic Mobil 1 high mileage. It provides additional additives for longevity and full synthetic doesn’t break down like Dino oil when subjected to the constant high rev’s that the weight of a MH causes

My 1995 460 F53 has had Walmart Super Tech full synthetic 10-W30 in it from 37,000 until today at 190,000. Engine does not use oil.
Less than $20 for a 5 quart jug.
2 jugs will fill the 460 and the generator.
The 460 get a Motocraft FL-1A oil filter.

No additives, no blending nothing besides the oil from the jug and a quality filter. I've rum Mobil oils for many decades both standard and synthetic, which today most all oils are a synthetic blend. Mobil 5000 is my oil for my daily drivers but I have used my share of Mobil 1 synthetic. I would not hesitate to use Walmart's Super Tech line of oils. On a Ford I'm partial to Motorcraft filters but WIX and NAPA filters are right up there too. I'm not sure of the recommended weight but it should be 10w-30, check your oil cap and manual.

I run diesel 5w-40 amsoil in my 460.

Use to run mobil turbo diesel and I'd still recommend that as well.
The amsoil has been cheaper or same cost and one reason I switched.
my 460 has about 140k on it so far.
lots of ppl like to use rotella in the 460's as well. Basically you want to know how much zddp is in the oil since the 460's need it more than modern engines.
If super tech has enough zddp in it, run it. 3k oil changes doesn't really matter the brand of oil today just the additive pkg.

I would suggest this except that dino is hard to find these days.

My 03 Workhorse doesn't get driven near as much as I would like so time (annually) dictates the change intervals. Didn't make any sense to pay extra for synthetic for my situation. I used dino in my motorhome's 8.1 for about 20 years up until I couldn't no longer get it at the local wallyworld.

I don't think the 460 needs anything special except for the correct viscosity. The OP should probably go with the brand they use in their other vehicle. I would not use any additives.

Edited to add: Oooops, I missed his reply saying his decision has been made.

Far as I've read, Mobil 1 has no ZDDP or other lead additive. I used ZDDP in my 1960's and 70's engines... that were in vehicles before catalytic converters became mandatory. From what I've learned, lead messes up the converters too quickly and is not to be used with converters??? Opinions and knowledge on that accounting appreciated.

Only reason not to use a good full synthetic is cost. At 7 MPG the cost of oil quickly becomes insignificant. Failure of that engine will begin as ring and piston failure or oil pressure due to carbon build up. With good oil you can't just wear it out.

Fluids...

High quality Oil, Trany, differential and cooling fluids are the cheapest maintenance we can use in every vehicle... to keep portions well up and running.

Even if you change all fluids at the same time, the cost will be 1/10 [or less than] the cost [and the trouble] of replacing an engine, trany or differential.

And... unless it's a used vehicle that should have all fluids and filters changed simultaneously [such as just done to our recently purchased used RV] the sporadic fluid changes that should be cycled on a regularly scheduled timely or mileage basis are deferred pennies on the dollar compared to cumbersome, expensive, labor filled equipment breakdowns.
