Bumpers deteriorating

Greetings all.
The bumpers on my 1993 motorhome are deteriorating. Due to the weather (and age of course) the finish is beginning to get quite rough.
Any ideas on how to "refinish" them? I'm assuming they are constructed of a rubber compound??.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Craig, unfortunately MH is in the shop in another city at the moment. (getting some other repairs made), so no pics available.
Trying to get a jump on it for when I get it back.

Not sure what type for plastic polymer your bumper were made from.

In any case I assume the were originally painted. In any cases you will want to use primers that adhere to plastic parts, for the base coats, then use a good quality single of two-stage paints to over coat.

Thanks D.
When I get it back I will post some pics that hopefully will show the problem clearly. I'm hoping the fix is something I can do myself.

Your bumper was made with HDPE (high density polyethylene), the color is mixed with the HDPE resin before it's molded. They are sometimes painted and can be re painted with the right prep which includes roughing the surface and using a primer. The better the prep, the better the finish.
